Could someone who's done it explain how depositing $60,000 in a CR bank allows you to apply for Rentista status? Do you have to top off the balance? Or are you allowed to draw it down as seems to be suggested here. Then do I have to put another $60,000 in at the end of five years? Also, am I allowed to deposit it in an interest bearing account?

Can it be a USD account? (I have read that it could be in a U.S.-based account, but also that it's easier to let the Costa Rican bank hold the money and provide the documentation.)

Here's what I'm reading. Does this seem about right?

I know about the documents I have to get, but are there other hurdles I should consider if going this route?

Also, I assume that I will also have to join the Caja. Does anyone have a link to a table where it shows how much you can expect to pay given age, etc.?

You may be best of by contacting an immigration lawyer in Costa Rica.
Go to AM/PM Costa Rica web site this english newspaper has ads. for lawyers and you should consult one.
