Many ex-pats try to duck taxes, but the noose is getting tighter. Foreign governments are now playing ball with the US, and are reporting income and property... and receive info from Uncle Sam so they can go after gringos living in foreign countries who are not paying taxes. In Colombia, I now have to report ALL income and property to DIAN (the Colombian "IRS"), as well as file income tax returns and FATCA reports every year.

The IRS is causing wealthy ex-pats to give up their US citizen ship because they try to extract more taxes from them.
Now it is getting to where even ordinary ex-pats are having to think seriously about dumping US citizenship.
Sad.

In the last few years, it has become MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE to renounce U.S. citizenship.

Expert advice from a lawyer experienced ON THIS SUBJECT is now necessary.
