Anybody have any experience with a company called Realty in CR? They seem to have a lot of apartments that meet my specs: Furnished, 1 or 2 BR, close to bus and shopping, $600ish range.

Thank you

IMO, I think you'll probably be better off spending your first month or so down here in a hotel or short-term apartment. Pick a couple barrios that you're interested in, walk through them looking for places for rent, maybe inquiring at the local pulperia. Talk to guys who live down here. Word of mouth, coupled with your own good judgement, is potentially a very good friend in CR. At the same time answer ads from La Nación that appear to be placed directly from the property owner.

For the kind of property your looking for, most real estate agencies (a term with no fixed meaning in CR) are not really going to be much help and will likely result in you getting less and paying more. That doesn't mean that if, for example, you answer a newspaper ad and it turns out to be placed by an agent you should automatically rule it out. Just be more cautious.

Craigslist may be another option, although I think others can probably address that option better than I.

The important thing is to take your time and find a place that really suits you.

When I stayed in Costa Rica, I was in Sabana Oeste, close to the park and Escazu. the main street is gated and the condo complex is gated. it is owned by a great guy from California named David King, I think he calls it King apartments. I am looking for his phone number and will update, it is south of the Sabana park first or second street after the three large high rise condos on the right side of the street.

There is a Pops ice cream place there and a medical school there. It is the street passing by Sabana park on the left (south side) of the park. I had a magnificent 2 story 2 bedroom place, fully furnished with everything, bring your clothes and your toothbrush, he has everything else, a nice gringo group with a cool tropical setting, gazebo, grill, trees, man made small waterfall. I paid $550 and had washer/dryer, even dishwasher.

He has studios and 1 bedrooms cheaper, prices may be higher now, he offered month to month. Very safe and walking distance to shopping, cabs pass by every 10 minutes on the main street, there is a Jewish school on that street, it is an upper middle class neighborhood. I will get more info and post later, have to dig through my Costa Rica records, if nothing else, a great place to stay for a month or 2, I stayed 2 years! 8)

Assuming that property is in Florida, why are you advertising it here? And are you sure you want 1 or more of us reptiles slithering through it? Oh wait--I forgot--South Florida is the natural home of slithering reptiles.

[quote="Greengo"]just a note of caution for all you slithering reptiles
