Recent medically retired infantryman here. Just wondering if there's anyone whose made the move to CR who's in the same situation. mainly would like to know how access to medical is with VA, Tricare, Medicare coverage... Also if there's any issues receiving Disablity payments from the VA and SS. Lemme know... I'd like to pick your brain. |

Here is a list of international insurances that Clinica Biblica in San Jose will accept. http://www.hcbinternational.com/web/ind ... -coverage/ I am retired and receiving disability while living in Colombia. My monthly check gets deposited in my US bank account. I use my US bank card to draw money at a bank or ATM here in Colombia. It's all very simple and straightforward. |

I am retired military and a Disabled Vet also. Not a full timer in CR but I am there alot. Do a google search on Tricare Overseas and VA overseas. It explains everything. Start there and If you have any specific questions. I will try to assist. Thanks for your service!!!! |

Thanks guys got all that info... Just wondering if there is anyone that actually had to use Tricare or VA benefits to pay for medical care. Would I need to establish a primary care doc down in Costa Rica? I know there is the foreign medical program http://www.va.gov/hac/forbeneficiaries/fmp/fmp.asp , but I'd like to get some first hand input. I plan on coming down every month or two extending the stays gradually over time and spending less time out of the gulch over time... Thanks in advance |

I have been lucky on my trips so far and not had to use it. I think you pay up front and then send the bill to TRICARE or the VA. I have not done the in-depth research yet but that is the impression that I am under. This topic as been discussed on the site before and I will do some research when I get time. The VA has a place that you can pre-register for these services as there are disabled VETS living all over the world. It is called the Foreign Beneficiaries Program. Go to this link and you will see the phone number. (http://www.va.gov/hac/forbeneficiaries/fmp/fmp.asp) I will call it next time I am in CR at the beginning of NOV. |

Daddy123, I just re-read your post and see that you already have the info I posted. I will let you know if I get any first hand knowledge from someone who has used the service. Please do the same for me and good luck. |

Clinica Catolica also has a Veterans office. Michael Sanchez or Joella were the last contacts I had. Phone 2246-3044 Ext. 044. FYI 11B DAV with 15 years in Costa Rica. |
