Hi, what Internet speeds are you getting in CR? If you've never checked, this is a good website to see how fast your upload and download speed is: http://www.speedtest.net/

Fastest I have seen advertised is 10MB download. I have 3 and constantly test out at 2.91 - 2.93.

Thanks, I understand from prior threads that the internet goes out more often than in the US but not as bad as most other lower income countries. When it does go out, does it normally stay out for a long time?

I have been forced to stay at a Marriott Property in Escazu in order to get the internet speeds I require to do work.

This is a better test for free with no catches.

Download 2.70 MBPS
Upload 2.56 MBPS

This is very good for the San Jose area but sometimes it is so slow you can not even get to the test site.

Yikes; I get better speeds on my cell phone on LTE.

I spoke to Guy Grand's IT person last night at the Mona Lisa and he said although the Internet speeds maybe spotty on the room floors (excluding the 4th floor) the speeds are pretty good (approx. 2 megs down) in the common areas. based on that I booked the Mona Lisa my next time in town. I can work from the common areas of the mona lisa because there is plenty of space to locate a quiet work area.

I just retested my home connection:

Download Speed - 43.00 Mbps
Upload Speed - 31.84 Mbps

You gotta love FIOS!

Same speed test on iPhone 5 with an LTE connection:

Download Speed - 4.73 Mbps
Upload Speed - 4.77 Mbps

Even my cellular connection blows away anything in Costa Rica.

Seriously, I know many pro internet poker players have moved to Costa Rica and no way they are settling for those slow speeds previously posted so there must be faster and reliable options available. I wish some of the hotel would look into them and provide decent wifi.

I use Tigo cable internet, paying for a nominal 5mbps service, and it generally gives 4.5 - 5mbps down and 1mbps up, except at peak times during the day (about 1.5 - 2 hours total time). Almost 100% uptime on the connection.

I have one business associate that has the SME service (business class) from ICE. I have heard conflicting reports on the quality of this service, but 3 or 4 speedtest runs by me have shown about 12mbps down and 1.5mbps up. Still not as fast as FIOS or 4G in the USA, but not bad.
