This question is directed to those residents; How much safer is Escazu than the rest of San Jose in terms of burglary, street crime, home invasions?

I've lived in Escazu for 5 years now. Its perhaps a little bit safer than the rest of central valley. The problem here is there is a LOT OF MONEY. This attracts the bad guys. On my street - there was one armed home invasion. I myself was mugged several years ago by a pack 5 drug addicts. I also had a contractor in my house steal a bunch of stuff. So, in my 41 years of living here and in US, Escazu is by far the most dangerous place. However, I have ADT, two scary dogs and a guard directly across the street. The security costs over $100 per month, but allows me to sleep in peace.

In this case, it doesnt really have to do with location but more on how you portray yourself in Costa Rica.

If you are gonna have the big house, suv and all that stuff and live in a somewhat secluded area of Escazu, you are an easy target.

If you live a modest life without showing off wealth pretty much any decent area of Costa Rica is as safe as any others.

I know some gringos that live rigt in the middle of downtown and have never had any problems.

I live in Moravia now which is a nice neighborhood and never had any problems. Only time I had problems was when I lived in San Pedro and got mugged once.
