So I just discovered that Netflix will not let me stream movies to my PC once I move outside the United States. Is there any way around this, such as using a proxy server? If anyone knows, I would appreciate this. Thanks.

Yeah, I experienced the same disappointment on my laptop while in Medellin several years ago. :( The streaming is blocked due to licensing restrictions. I haven't explored how to work around this, so I've accepted the fact that I will be without Netflix while in Colombia.

Try a VPN if that doesn't work, they are able to detect a proxy so that doesn't work.

Or just used torrents and/or newsgroups to download the movie... I mean if you wanna live like a local down here why would you actually wanna pay a licensing fee??

But to answer the question, there are several services on the internet that purport to be privacy/security sites that route your traffic through their servers to hide your IP. No idea if it would work on Netflix as I've never used their service and they may have a way to detect that kind of thing. Might drop Spanky a PM, he's a computer genius (just not when he's on vacation).

Using the high speed connection they have in Costa Rica? It would take 3 days. That reminds me of college when Al Gore invented the internet. When we needed to download a song (yes, 1 song  ) we would: dial-in and connect to the internet and start the download (from Napster) when you go to bed, and when you wake up, it should be done (unless your connection gets screwed during the night and then you gotta do it again the next night).

There are several other Brothers who could chime in but Brother Steven1 seems to know a lot about all sorts of snakey shtuff. Try him as well.

Well Hotspot Shield works for Hulu but not with Netflix. Any other suggestions?

I don't know, but Slingbox says that you can view whatever is on you home TV anyplace there is a high speed Internet connection.

Has anyone tried this, I am considering it.

I saw this thread just now as I am sitting on a WiFi enabled bus in Colombia heading from Pereira to Cali. So I thought I would give Netflix a try. No problems streaming a movie from my iPhone.
