this question is a little morbid, but it's going to happen to all of us eventually.
what if you croak while living in CR? has anyone made any arrangements to be sent back to the US?
can you make arrangements?
i understand that they don't imbalm in CR and plant you within 24 hrs.

Not morbid at all and something everyone should plan for.

Shipping a body back to the U.S. is very expensive. While Costa Ricans may be buried very quickly and without the need for embalming you would have to be embalmed if you were being shipped back to the U.S. It is much cheaper to be cremated here and have your ashes carried back by someone.

Personally I have prepaid for my cremation and my ashes will be in one of the mausoleums owned by the Escazu American Legion post in the San Antonio de Escazu cemetery. I see no reason to have my remains sent back to the U.S.

There is also that bridge at Jaco for the real budget minded among us.

Having no family that will come looking for me, or friends who care enough to report me gone- they be dead by then also- and the way my retirement income will be set up, I only have to be seen once to sign papers after that will auto deposit to my CU account and then the funds can be transferred to a local branch of some bank some where. my plan is the following.
TO LIVE FOREVER . just like those old people in Japan.

ruffly my plan is

I will give POA to some one local when I am getting to the end, along with my pass words and pins, then as longs as they file the yearly income tax returns for me( nonfiling trips off some systems where some may look at my file(s) and note my age is now like 145 ), and no body ever shows up at a police station and withdrawals are made at a ATM/bank in a foreign county-limits ability to investigate who is taking the funds out- or knock on my door to say "HI" to me Some lucky CRTer could be party on me for years..

So its the bridge for my body , BUT after I am dead. One's alwasy's got's to's have's a's plan's

Sorry, you have to have an IQ over 25 to attend. That leaves you and your merry band of trolls unqualified.

This also the one and only time I will respond to your hijacking of this thread with your troll BS. The man asked a serious question, one that we all have to face eventually, and he deserves serious answers. Go back to the smack talk section where all you AH's hang out.
