Dollar Drops Below ¢500
Inside Costa Rica

The dollar exchange dropped to its lowest in 2010 and the last two years, as the Banco Central de Costa Rica (Central Bank) posted a rate of ¢498.41 this morning, below the ¢500 floor. Banks and financial institutions were quick to react. At the Scotiabank the posted buy rate this morning is ¢497 and the sell ¢509. Other private banks were slightly higher, the Banco Cathay with the best rate, ¢501 and ¢512, respectively.

At the state banks, the Banco Nacional de Costa Rica (BN), the buy is ¢498 and the sell ¢507.50, while at the Banco de Costa Rica (BCR), the buy is ¢497.50 and the sell ¢507.50. Banks and financial institutions are required to report any changes to their exchange rate to the Central Bank within 10 minutes of any changes at the counter. One article I read recently speculated that large flows of drug dollars were influencing the Colon. Not surprising since CR is now recognized as a major shipment point for drugs.

This is all due to the chica network
Last year at this time the rate was 560 or 570
It was in our favor... chicas still using 500 to 1 rate
The girls need the dollar to be at that rate :shock:

This present dire condition affects both coasts as well as the central areas. It is a plague on the land and I'm not convinced the Government is up to the task of dealing with it.
Bitter irony (and this is from a CR national)--It used to be that Colombia was "dirty" and CR, clean; now the reverse is true. Physical and spiritual corruption are being visited on this land, and I despair.

Costa Rica becoming a major transshipment location for Colombian/Mexican Cartels is a major problem, but I really would be surprised if it is one of the major reasons for changes in the exchange rate. The less sexy, but more realistic, explanations are probably the opening of the telecommunications and insurance markets and a general expansion of foreign investment in Costa Rica in chip, medical equipment and tire manufacturing as well as call centers. Along with interventions by the Banco Central in the money market in order to control inflation.

for those lucky ones down in CR right now...have the MPs increased their USD prices? what about HDR chicas, can they convert 497 to $1? or are they still using 500 to $1 :P

It's the US economy and all the debt the US is taking on. The US is devaluing the dollar to make exports cheaper, repayment of debt in US dollars cheaper, and f*cking their citizens into spending their money at home instead of going abroad. Same BS imperialist crap we got from Clinton, Carter, etc etc

here in beautiful, downtown DC, they are printing new bills faster than you can blink.....the treasury is literally having to buy new pressses to print the new 600 billion in bills just released by the Fed.....the printing press gang is working overtime out their asses!

what is the current going rate of 'tiny CR napkin' versus the dollar?....pretty soon the little darlings will be using dollars to wipe their asses.

It's funny that Laura Chanchilla ( :lol: ) isn't commenting about the image of CR being a pit stop for drugs runners, but God forbid they are known as a sex tourist destination. :?

Recently read a report saying that the colon was the 3rd strongest appreciating currency vs. the USD last year, appreciating some 11%. Damn shame for the Brothers living there.

I would love to say fuk it, let it go down, but I have a vested interest in the US (2 businesses).

What most don't know is that this is the last ditch effort of a failed economy.

This has a lot more to do with our (USA) national debt and trillion dollar bailouts than it does with TICAS or drugs.
