I currently have a place in La Eurica and am looking for the most reliable way to send and receive mail from Costa Rica to the States. I would like to get mail from Costa Rica forwarded to the states and I would also like to be able to rely on getting mail back to the same location. NOt sure what options exist and am looking for some advice from seniors who have experience with this. I understand traditional mail is not reliable, looking for other options here that are in your humble opinions. |

That is a mail forwarding service that gives you a Miami address. They have an office in La Uruca right next to the Best Western hotel. |

That's true there are some things that the companies in CR offer a high prices to ship it to our location, but on the contrary these prices are a little cheaper while having it ordered via Amazon. The CR authorities might have had a thought about it and would not be too keen on having to use the credit cards for this purpose. |

Agree with all the above except--Brother ID never had a humble opinion in his life. Strong--check; correct--check; humble--not so much. |

I inquired with Aerocasillas. The rates they post on their site are the shipping rates only. You have to add the duties, fuel surcharges, insurance, and "customs handling" fee. Here is the calculator: http://www.aeropost.com/sjoe/onlinetoolscalculator.htm For example, $50 worth of clothes in a 2kg package would run $42 to ship. Almost 100% of the value. ![]() I'm thinking about setting up a company called Shippal (like Paypal), where people would buy items online and ship them to CRT members and they would in turn bring them on their next trip. I would have a list of participating members and their travel dates. Who's in? (Obviously, the people would get paid for bringing in packages.) |

Aerocasillas calculator is kind of off from my experiences with them, it mainly depends what they end up classifying your stuff as.. Things like home goods are cheap, electronics, well not so much. |

The only time I had a discrepancy was when I had a new desktop computer and monitor shipped in. The total declared value was about $750.00. Customs valued it at a little over $200 and did not charge any duty. I did not complain. ![]() |
