I am thinking of doing a recording project in C.R. as both an excuse for travel and a write-off.

1. Does anyone have firsthand knowledge of a recording studio in SJ?

2. Does anyone know of a place where musical equipment can be rented?

3. Does C.R. or SJ have a musician's union or guild? Talent agencies for hiring musicians?

Thanks in advance for any informed replies. :) ,

I only know of a couple of project studios, but I suspect there are real ones as well. I suspect any of the 3 major music stores would rent equipment. They might also know of recording studios and that's where you can find good musicians, in the music stores, usually salesmen to try to earn a REAL living. One of the guys who worked at Bansbach played with Santana (percussion). That's not much concrete information but it's what I have.

While some of the "instruments" that you play may be "melodious" I don't know if they would be welcomed in a recording studio! I don't know, maybe "fist and fanny" is a new instrument!  8)

I believe their is a recording studio just south of Pequeno Mundo in San Pedro (three blocks for my place...).

The 2nd place I'd try (after the 3 music stores Brother Bilko mentioned) would be the Music Department at UCR or another university--they may even have in-house facilities to use (what with modern plumbing, they're unlikely to have out-house facilities--but I digress). Next, get in touch with vendors that equip studios (Tascam mixing boards, Shure mikes, etc.--they know who they've sold to and may even give you a heads-up on how good the engineering, production and post-production is). You are gonna share the product of your sessions with us, aren't you, you keyboard wizarding golden-voice of the Northlands? This last said with great respect--I've heard him.

:D Excellent replies all...thank you. Rockwell, Pac55 is not ridiculous. Ask him sometime about his and my little field recording project. I actually had a link posted to the V.I.P. where members could hear the finished prod-uction.

Best line of the recording:

"Smell that...." P55  As he smears my upper lip with G-spot juice......

A buddy of mine, Otto is a Bellhop at HDR and plays guitar. He lives a couple doors away from Harry's Poas. According to some of his friends that I was having a few beers with over at News Cafe. They tell me that there are plenty of studios but no decent producers. Opening up a nice pro studio that top bands could use while enjoying everything else that CR has to offer has been a dream of mine the way that most guys dream of having thier own bar. I'll see if I can track down more info.
