I'm not sure when it happened, but i just noticed it about a month ago. Someone at MOPT has reset all the traffic lights to 11 on the stupid scale. The main drag on Avenida 2, you'll notice that all the lights turn green at the same time, and they all turn red at the same time. It used to be that they were staggered and you could more or less (unless traffic stops you) drive right through. Recently, someone retimed them and now you can only get 2 or 3 blocks at a time before they all change red again. Tonight I noticed the same thing on Avenida 1, all the lights turn green at the same time, and they all turn red at the same time. 2 or 3 blocks max before you have to stop. This is just insanity. Who the hell thought this was a good idea? I could see if they actually stopped people on a regular basis for running red lights.. it would generate some income, but that's something that almost never happens. Stupid. |

About a year ago MOPT bought new fancy shmancy semaforos with a computer system and cameras to alleviate traffic probs in SJO. The idea was to visually monitor traffic and change the lights accordingly. About the time they had the new semaforos and cameras installed there was an article in La Nacion about the computer system being stolen. It took about 2 months to get the replacements and install them. Their mistake was failing to consider that a Tico cop would be at the controls. Uno mas cosa Muy Tico! |
