Crackerass, I have been very lucky both on the chica split and the sale of the condo. I got out of the chica situation with minimal $$ and hassles, and i still have conjugal rights. I made a significant gain on the condo that more than covered what I lost on the sale of the furniture. I feel very lucky.
My biggest loss in CR was not the chica, but owning a car down here. Between the rapid decline in MV of the car ($8,000), the exhorbitant insurance costs ($2,400), Marchamo ($850), fuel, a wreck with an ICE truck ($2,700), and basic repairs, the vehicle cost me even more than the chica. I could have hired a private driver with a stretch limo cheaper than owning a used 2001 Mercedes ML 320.
