Where are the bikes in San Jose. Is there a law that says people can't ride bikes on Central blvd. or can someone lead me in the right direction for the laws regarding bikes in public areas. I have a great business opportunity for San Jose.... it is setup similar to a place in Spain that I visit yearly...... I will introduce the opportunity when i get the rules on the bikes.....

pura vida!!!

There are hundreds of bikes on San Jose streets. You just have to be fast to see them since their life expectancy is in seconds....

If you are asking about mechanical bicycles they are not a common transportation mode in the Central Valley. There are many serious riders who use them for recreation. Just check out the Santa Ana area any weekend morning.

If you are asking about motorized bikes they are ubiquitous. It is almost impossible not to hit one or two for about every 5 kilometers you drive

I do not know if either is allowed on avenida central or avenida 4 pedestrian walkways.

The only bikes I've ever seen in San Jose were being ridden by the Tourist Polica.

I've seen quite a few bikes and in the outlying country, it is a prime method of transport. In Nicaragua, a lot of the taxis are bikes similar to Thailand.
But Pac is right, downtown San Jose isn't the place you want to be on a bike. For more info, you might PM Scubabum. He rides around down here a lot...

Never seen anyone ride a bike on ave central except for the police. Same for the pedestrian walkways.

There is too much traffic and the roads are too narrow to safety bike in most areas of the central valley.

Alot of people ride in the santa ana area and on the road to cartargo especially on sundays when the traffic is much less.

I used to ride 3-4 times a week mainly on the freeway to cartargo past terramall, tres rios etc..

Overall I would have to say it is too dangerous to ride on the roads. Many times a tico would whiz by me inches away.

A mountain bike in the outlying areas would be a far better plan. Better opportunities for off road mountain biking.

There are a lot of bicycles everywhere except San Jose. You need to be brave to bicycle on those streets. Tux

I saw alot of bikes in Jaco. Riding anything but a bus or taxi in San Jose is crazy, for sure.
