Just like any other country or organization, it is who you know! Costa Rica has a long tradition of “getting things done based on relationships.†As a conjunctive note, things also get UN-done or NOT done based on relationships. For example, casinos are going to have to limit their hours; the Del Rey was denied a building permit to link the hotel with the Key Largo property via an overhead pedestrian bridge.
Some would say those decisions are not good for the people:
- It is estimated that 3,000 jobs will be lost in the casino industry.
- Certainly, this country believes in pedestrian bridges because they dot the country. They are safer and help expedite traffic.
So why no bridge? Why irrational gaming policy?
No relationships or if they do have relationships, they are sour.
The magic scissors for cutting red tape - knowing the right person.
That's a another topic all together, but what's the deal in San Jose with the locals? Would a gringo have a lot of problems opening doors in the middle of San Jose, and under cutting the existing MP's? Is there an underground kinda red tape there?
