Mr. Bones - funny you mention Rohrmoser, near the American Embassy. Our apartment is in Rohrmoser & we always stop at Spoon (was across the street from the embassy, now down a few blocks). It was ALWAYS packed. So they moved to a new location, quadrupled the space & at least quadrupled the parking. Last two times I've had to park down the street. It's a veritable cash cow. And they close at 8 and always have people inside at 8 & I've seen may turned away. When I'm in town we usually stop by at least every other day....so that's at least 4 - 5 visits a month & I work in the U.S.. I get the Frozen Latte Avallana [sp?] & my little friend usually gets a salad, pasta or a ham sandwich.

The key is that if you're in a more afflluent area (Rohrmoser, Ezcazu, etc) you MUST have a butt-load of parking & be conveniently located.

Dude, I actually worked out of there for a couple of weeks way back when and the coffee shop there could not not be a success.

I think BWD has himself a business plan if he wants one; the assorted membership IDed locations, style, accoutrement, etc, etc. I would like to see someone do this. :D

AKA their target audience, some of whom actually buy their coffee and outrageously overpriced noshes. Doubtless all slackers and/or rump rangers.

Cinnebon is another chain in Costa Rica. I visited one at the Mall in Heredia about 3 weeks ago. OK but very expensive and not crowdwed. I asked a Tico friend about the mall food courts always being packed and he explained it as a fad. He said that when Pizza Hut first opened in CR, pizza in general was relatively new in the country. They were packed every day. As pizza became a more mainstream food and others starting baking them the traffic at Pizza hut started dropping and now they are mostly busy on weekends. That place just west, across from the Holiday Inn is pretty good and a lot cheaper than Pizza Hut, about 4 blocks away. Nothing fancy, no credit cards but good.

Do not think that your business is different. How successful you are at marketing your backend products depends entirely on one thing - the quality of your front-end product. If your front-end product disappointed your customers they will not buy your more expensive
backend no matter how great you make it sound.

Here's what Greengo was talking about--there are 22 of them in the Central Valley: http://www.spooncr.com/
