Bro DonCarlos hit it on the nose. As much as this is a discussion about income and prices, it's more about desired lifestyle AND income/prices. It depends on what you have been used to, and how much and what kind of changes you'll endure/embrace. There's a whole bunch of folks that reached the breaking point about year 2 or 3. Not that anybody savvy shouldn't try, just don't commit utterly too soon and always have a Plan B.
Also consider the ARCR Newbie seminars--without revealing much about yourself, they may prove useful:
http://www.arcr.net/ If you are with a service/social org in the States (Elks, VFW, etc), they can be a help and source of stability in CR. And, natch, you always got us. Good luck however you play it.

Thank you everyone for weighing in.
My retirement is set for May/2017 and I have taken your information into consideration in my retirement model. I think I can swing it.

G*d save you ? Unlikely, he's going to be pissed at all of us justifiably so and he'll allow us to tear each other apart. Us old folks ? We're going down first...

Bro Netgems, meet Greengo; Greengo, Bro Netgems. I'm sure y'all will have a delightful time wallowing in misery and dire predictions of the future, and who knows? You just might get some good tunes out of it. Sheesh. Y'alls lack of any optimism is just sad. And remember: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MisLnQjKP00

I strongly refute that racist comment that vanilla faces cannot sing the blues, maybe no vanilla face MAN can, but in my day, Janice Joplin more than held her own...

I strongly refute that racist comment that vanilla faces cannot sing the blues, maybe no vanilla face MAN can, but in my day, Janice Joplin more than held her own...

Point 1) JJ was an overwrought, crazy, thieving piece of crap not good enough to hold Tracey Nelson's or Bonnie Bramlett's used tampon, and I'm not the only here thinking this--if you want an emotional but in control woman BES singer, try Lydia Pense--I also like Janiva Magness; Point 2) You entirely missed the aim of Mitch Ryder's song--it was a bitterly ironic refutation of those who think Blue-eyed Soul shouldn't exist. The 2nd and 3rd lines of the song are the proof. See this Thread (and contribute to it if you have the stones and something add): viewtopic.php?f=16&t=34006 <<"...it's killing me..."
Oh and BTW Tad Robinson, John Nemeth and a score of other modern masters might take issue with "...no vanilla face MAN can..." Also Matt Cardle on The "X" Factor. Try to keep up, willya?

If you two are finished with the thread, could you kindly return it to the shelf from whence it came? Someone else may be looking for it.

You and Bro Mr.Black are correct. I apologize with no shuck and jive. I should know and act better.

fa·ce·tious
[fuh-see-shuhs] Show IPA
adjective
1.
not meant to be taken seriously or literally: a facetious remark.
2.
amusing; humorous.
3.
lacking serious intent; concerned with something nonessential, amusing, or frivolous: a facetious person.

Anyway....if you scroll back a few comments you'll see my advice on living VERY COMFORTABLY in Costa Rica on a budget of $1800 per month...

MONTHLY BUDGET :?:

IT ALL DEPENDS ON HOW YOU WANT TO LIVE
:!:

I have lived here for 8 years on a budget of $1600 a month including what I put into savings each month, and there is not much I would want to do that I don't do!! Including all the chicas this 71 year old can handle, live in a very nice apartment, eat good (too good based on my gut  ), go and do a lot of things, and in general, I have a great time!!! Would not trade living here for anything!! Yeah, Having a little more money each month would be nice, but I make it just fine!!

At the same time I have known guys who can't seem to make it here on $5000 a month  :? :P But then those guys for the most part could not make it anywhere on $5000 a month!!
