No she doesn't, which is why it doesn't make sense to me and want to get some confirmation. She just used my phone number. I have never recharged using a card so I have no idea if you can directly apply the credit to another sim. I saw on their website you can transfer credit but it doesn't give a fresh 30 days. It isn't looking good for me as my sim expires Tuesday. I did see on the website a mention of a 5 day grace period. Hopefully masterpago is up soon.

If you have the SIM, then she can't recharge you using a card. You have to put in the PIN while the SIM is connected to ICE. So really what you did is recharge her phone.

I didn't recharge anything. When I asked, she said she had a 1,000 colones recharge card and could apply it my number. From the website I only saw mention of transfers from one number to another, not direct loading of credit. I was hoping she could just select another phone number to apply the credit. As to a PIN, I don't even know my PIN. I removed the PIN lock on my SIM but I understand there is an ICE PIN too. I don't recall ever being given such a PIN.

Any suggestions on how to get some credit loaded before it expires?

By "PIN", I mean the number on the recharge card when you scratch off the back. Not anything associated with your phone or SIM.

No. I'm in the same boat. I think my SIM expired. No biggie, I'll just get a new one. I save all my contacts to my phone, so I won't lose anything. I don't care about having the same number. In fact, I think a new number is better. I will only call people (read: chicas) that I want to call me back.

I tried looking through the bank websites that were mentioned in this thread, but I could not get anywhere with that. I think it works if you have accounts in these banks, so

Oh well, I don't care about the number either. I have found if you tell a chica you will see them later or some other excuse, and they have your number, they definitely will be calling.

The two main reasons I want to retain my SIM. The first is being able to have data access. I rarely make calls, even in the States, since it is just easier to text. I also prefer to text in CR because my Spanish isn't up to par. I can just copy and paste the text into google translate. Also, I can never hear the chica because either she is in the noisy Del Rey or her K*ds are crying in the background... If I get a new SIM I understand it will not have data access. The second reason is my SIM has been cut down to micro size and altered to fit the iPhone 4 and Gevey Turbo SIM.

One last thing, CRGolfer mentioned in chat that a reload can be done at AM/PM market. I may ask my friend to try and add some colones in that manner.

My suggestion is the online bank account method if you are trying to save money. If you do the pre paid card method you might as well get a new sim card everytime you come to san jose as it will be 7,000 Colones (I believe that is still the amount) to initiate the line with a new number and SIM card.

A new SIM costs ¢2500, ¢5000, or ¢10000. There are no ¢7000 SIMs.

I was talking about the initial charge of about 7,000 Colones for the SIM card it's self. The 2,500, 5,000, and 10,000 are for the recharge amounts.

Have you paid ¢7000 for a SIM card?

They must have seen you coming? Neither I, nor anybody that I know, have ever paid for a SIM. The initial payment includes the SIM. That's why I don't care if I have to get a new one, other than the possibility that they will be out of numbers again.

I just brought an iphone4 down for someone. They brought it to someone to unlock it. it was on in the states and i didnt jailbreak it or unloack it before brining it down. Well anyway she brought it to someone to do it and they said it couldnt be done rightnow and that in two months they woudl be able to. My Question is. Is this True? or is it just a matter of having a micro sim for it. and if so where can she get a micro sim? and if this is the case, why doent everyone just start using the samsung galaxy s android phone. lol....

It is true.

The iPhone 4 without the original baseband can not be software unlocked. It can be unlocked with a Gevey SIM up to baseband 04.10.01. If you upgraded the iPhone to iOS 5.0 without preserving your old baseband it can not be unlocked. Furthermore, don't believe the nonsense about them being able to do so in 2 months. Apple has patched all the exploits and the hackers have not had any success.

I would imagine the carriers also subsidy lock the android phones. Furthermore, the iPhone is popular because it is easily and totally switched to Spanish. Lastly, the chicas like the status of having an iPhone.

AT&T will not give out unlock codes for the iPhone. It was exempted from the class action suit a few years ago. I hope in the future they will start providing the unlock code.

The way to determine the baseband on an iPhone is go to Settings, General, About and then scroll down to the bottom of the screen to Modem Firmware.

iOS is the version of the operating system on the iPhone. Currently 5.0.1 is the latest version.

as the op stated, anything up to baseband 04.10.01 can be unlocked using a Gevey sim. ICE has a device that cuts normal size sims to fit the iPhone4/4s.

android is easy to unlock compared to the iPhone. they are the master at staying ahead of the geeks.

Are there enough apps and features that work in CR to justify an Iphone in CR? I have a $30 dollar Nokia 1616 from Wal Mart that works in my parking garage when my friends IPhone will not get a signal in the same spot. If I want to take pics, I use my $99 Dollar Sony 12.1 digital camera.

I would like to have a smart phone that gets stock quotes but do I need an Iphone for this ?

I have an Ipad that I never use. Maybe I'm too simpleton to own an Iphone. My ADD doesn't allow me the patience to figure out how to use it.

I have a Blackberry 9530 Touch but the battery wont keep a charge and when I took out the battery, it looks like it expanded in size a little.

The original baseband on the iPhone 4 was 01.59.00. I said that version can be "software" unlocked. A software unlock involves jailbreaking the iPhone and then loading software which unlocks the iPhone. However, the iPhone 4 can be unlocked with a Gevey Sim up to baseband version 04.10.01. When iOS 5.0 came out last fall if you upgraded via Apple the baseband would get updated to 04.11.08 and a Gevey sim will no longer work. People who wish to unlock need to preserve the baseband when updating to a new iOS.

SIM cards are easily cut and ICE may even sell micro sims.

As to putting an older baseband on the iPhone it is not going to happen. The hackers have been trying to do so for years and have not had any success. You can go back to an older iOS version but once the baseband is updated there is no going back.

I wish it was easier but the companies pay a large subsidy to Apple for each iPhone (about $450) so they make it extremely difficult to unlock. Apple does sell unlocked iPhones but you have to pay full price. An unlocked iPhone 4s 16g is $650, 32g is $750 and a 64g is $850.
