Not sure I would use the EscapeArtist website as a reference as most of their content is old, out of date or just plain wrong... Don't believe me, then peel back the layers on any of their articles regarding a country you know personally and you will see what I mean...

i know it was discussed numerous times .....
i travel all over the world and my favored country so far // dont ask why // is Japan.
now, 200 sq.f apartment in Tokyo cost 1000$ a month which makes it difficult to swallow as I have house in Florida. other consideration is health care which cost money everywhere. i visited Costa Rica couple times and posted here my negative opinion here which nobody like. and chicks in San Jose are not really cheap as i hate to pay by hour. I liked Singapore much better as its more like USA but without nonsense but its not really cheap either. and as i remember decent apartment in San Jose cost like 800$ a month which is not cheap. yes its all about money i guess.
any advice?

Hey I lived in Japan for 2 years. I was married to a Japnese lady for 5.5 years; I have 2 K*ds with her, but we are finito now. I can help ya out alot as far as questions you may have. I dont know anybody in Tokyo any more, but I do know people in other parts of Japan. I can tell ya that Japan is a very expensive country to just live and work in; retirement would even become much more difficult. You will need some other source of income in japan other then a pension. I dont think they pay much nowadays anyway...lol The reason for housing being so expensive is due to the land. Alot of land in japan is un-inhabitable (if thats a word). Less land means less to build homes on the land and the less homes to build means the costs would go up. Yes it's insane I know. One remedy is to build high rises, which they do, but japan's population per square mile is highly populated given the amount of land they have to use to build homes on. Wealth in japan is based on how much land you own. That's how important it is.

Just wanted to explain why housing is so expensive there. It doesnt make sense to me either. I think this has to do with japan being on the other side of the world. After my stay there I came to the conclusion that Japan is really a backwards country or we are one. Still trying to figure that out! Let me know if you do. The only normal thing over there is the pu*sy, but even those are extremely hairy. Here is something else you might not have none since i bring that point up; In japan, if a girl has a hairy pu*sy she is considered normal, but if its not hairy-meaning she shaves-then the lady is considered a whore. Well if you have any questions send them to me(PM). I can answer them for you and if i can't I can find someone who will.

Oh yea the guys on this forum hate me too. Its fun to mess with them though. If you dont think like they do or bow to the powers that be then they bash you about everything you say. I wrote some crazy trip reports in CR and was bashed for being honest with them. And no i didnt get 2 dwi's in a month I just put that on here so some of these guys will have something to talk about kind of like Sunday's paper to them.

Yeah, I lived in Marbella for about a year while in the army and it was interesting to say the least. I am not sure I would want to do it again, as the wet heat there is something, but it definitely has more commerce/business orientation than SJ. :D

Tim,
Aren't there some areas of Panama that are at altitude and have a cooler climate? I am with you on the heat. I can't take it. I lived in South Florida for 20 years and I hated the oppressive humidity and heat.

higher altitudes and cooler climates do exist in panama, but not close to panama city. Cerro Azul is 1 1/2 from the city, El Valle is 2 hours, both are small towns, no action. Boquete is very nice but 7 or 8 hours from panama city. Boquete is great if you have a GF. Locals are available for GF or you can drive down the mountain to David and there are casino with p4p.

Yeah, I believe David and El Valle de Anton, Panama (Anton Valley) are cooler as they are higher in elevation.

If the Philippines and Japan aren't too far away to travel to, take a tip from Brother Srilm and look at Eastern Europe. Also if your Spanish is good or better, try the major cities of Colombia. And then there's Rio. Full disclosure: I haven't been to any of these places, just relying on the collective wisdom I've gained from this Board.

other point is renting versus buying. i have multiple properties in US and its mostly headaches and taxes and as we all know unless i want to lose property i cannot allow any chick move in and i am sure same apply anywhere. other bad point about owning is if something happens or you change your mind about country you cannot move easy.
so as a result i have to talk to myself and no family possible and i should state--any country social structure design suck and is against men.

I really liked PI when I was there last year and in fact kind of miss it. I talked with loads of expat retirees while there. Most seemed to like living there. The cost of living is indeed cheap, the ladies beautiful and generally a nice place to be. I think it would be a great place to retire except for the lack of quality medical care. I have health issues to consider and that for me would eliminate the Philippines. :( I was kind of amazed how many retired expat monger retirees who had no health insurance of any sort. Some looked like candidates for for a serious coronary.
