Jazz and Drifter,

Thank You. I did not mean to cause problems regarding " aiding and abetting". My questions regarded Costa Rican Banks. I was under the impression that only banks that had a presence in the US would require notification to the US that an account was opened by a US citizen. I thought that the Bank of San Jose may not have a US location.

My questions regarded how I open an account, the requirements, and if the existance of this account would be noticed in the US. I did not and do not consider passing along this info to be "aiding and abetting".

I appreciate your response, and I apologize if I rasied concerns.

I still am not sure of the requirements for an account.

I used to teach a college level course to students who were about to graduate and venture out into the world in their new profession. The class was, for a lack of better words, focused on not phu*cking up financially, e.g., don't borrow too much, keep track of your spending, buy a home and not too many toys in the early stages of your career, etc.

It was not an investment course or some clever scheme to get rich quick; it was more along the lines of the tortoise as in the famed Aesop fable titled The Hare and the Tortoise. It was all about conducting yourself in a methodical manner so you grow and keep your wealth.

Lesson Point № 5: TAXES AND THE IRS Understand what you can deduct and cannot deduct; keep accurate records; take every legal deduction you are allowed maybe even a little fudge factor; but never, ever, cheat the IRS. They have no sense of humor nor are they very nice people. They have incredible legal powers which reach around the globe and maybe even to the back side of the moon.

AM Costa Rica recently ran an article about three Americans who are sitting in Costa Rican jail because they thought they could get away with dodging the IRS.

I am not an IRS agent, I can’t be, my parents were married. But I have serious respect for the nearly unlimited power they wield in the world of finance and what they can do to you if you get caught cheating. I have seen what they can do. Just like ole' Dirty Harry used to say, "A man's got to know his limitations."
