The problem with older cars in CR is they get to the point they tend to start needing "one of everything" - and while labor in CR is reasonable (compared to the USA) parts are expensive - Unless I had some of your mechanical skills, no way would I even consider a car from the 1960's (Although that said, you see a fair number of old Toyota Land Crusers on the road down there - simple, easy car to work on, but its lacking in many of the features and comforts most of us have come to expect)
