They have to listen to Brother Prolijo or Greengo explain something to them for 2 hours. Doubtful they'll ignore a 2nd ticket.

Ok, this is news to me... since I don't drive in CR and take taxi's everywhere... Can I be charged for not wearing a seatbelt as a taxi passenger?

Not sure about that. Reading Greengo's explanation will have them so confused as to what the message is they will just pay the ticket.

We'll have to get ID's opinion on this, but as I understand it, the fine for no seatbelts is assessed against the operator or the owner of the vehicle. I tell my passengers to buckle up or I'm not paying the fine. On a side note, one of my friends has his front plate missing. That's another violation good for around 200 bucks. His novia looks great in short shorts and a low cut blouse. They get stopped on the road to Jaco. Sweetie pie jumps out, wiggling her ass and generally entertaining the officer. Not only does he not ask for a bribe or give a ticket, but he gives the chica his telephone number and tells her if they get stopped again to have the officer call him and "no problemo". He figures any time he's going to the beach, swettie pie knows what to wear.

The answer is "YES" !!! I've been ticketed for this exact offense.

In 2005, I was driving around Guanacaste, and got pulled over by the policia on the way to Tamarindo. It was one of those road-side checkpoints. He told me that the passenger (my favorita) must have on a seat belt. My Colombiana started arguing with him in rapid-fire espanol, but to no avail. He wanted $20 to make the problem "go away", but I insisted that he write me the ticket, which he finally and reluctantly did. The fine was 8,000 colones!

I simply gave the ticket to my rental car company when I returned the car, and they charged me the price of the ticket, plus 2,000 colones for some type of "administrative fee". Basically, it would have been the same amount to just pay the road-side bribe, but I wanted him to physically write the ticket. :? Still have a copy of that ticket as a souvenir!

MG I don't think you answered the original question since he wrote you the ticket not the passenger. :? I think in the states the driver is responsible and would also be given the ticket for the passenger not wearing a seat belt..

As far as taxis go, the traffic cops seem to give them a pass on cracking down on the law. Although some will wait for the light to turn green, I still see a lot of taxis slide through the red lights. I sure miss that convenience.
