This is a very interesting topic and a scary one. I'd also like to know how the renouncers feel 5 to 10 years after their decision. I'd think that the Government would get your passport and that life could be hell if you wanted to or needed to travel. This isn't the 1830's when you could just walk off a ship in any country and slip right into the local scene. I'd think that there a million things that could bite you for making such a precipitous decision.

The IMF will also fund the Greek Bailout. The US funds about 12% of the IMF. 12% of the IMF contribution to Greece is approximately $7 Billion dollars. Please expect Greek Government workers who have retired by 50 with a full pensions to send you Thank You notes for your hard work and contribution to their lifestyle. Some will riot because you are not giving enough to them. You should consider upping your donation.
Please remember that most transactions in Greece are cash based to avoid the value added tax. Most of the pension money will be spent this way to avoid funding their own government and benefactor. That's the job of US, German, and French taxpayers.

There are actually very very few here that renounce citizenship. I know of two that are both Sportsbook guys that can not go home anyway without trouble. The vast majority of expats simply get residency not citizenship.
