When you get thrown in jail for assaulting a poor homeless citizen or tragic single mother citizen trying to feed her Babi*s, make sure you explain you are a foreigner here for a cheap Phuck. If all else fails present your CRT-Vip card.

Another option is always carry about $300 in colones, if the policia show up, flash the colones, tell them you suspect they might be counterfeit and if they allow you to go around the corner to look for the guy who gave them to you, you'll hand them to them right now and allow them to inspect $100 worth each to make sure they are real...be right back, officers...

This violates the “never pay cien” rule. Negóciate it down to $80 to avoid public humiliation on CRT

The guns and knives, sirens and drop wallets are fun to carry, and might work if you get a nice criminal giving you a chance to use them. Of course, if you use deadly force and aren't connected to some local VIP's, law enforcement is going to try their best to charge you with some violation.

But the cynical criminal isn't going to give you a chance. Like walking up with a hand gun out pointing at you, or bash your head from behind, etc.

Oh yeah! I forgot to say, Have a nice vacation.

They are in Colombia or Buffalo, NY.

Both times I was being robbed, I just showed them my Lifetime CRT card and they let me go without a hassle. Definitely worth the price.

Or you could hire Jeremy Dewitte to escort you. (Type his name into YouTube if you don’t get the reference)

He can escort you around San Jose with his Metro State fleet.

I punched a hole through my CRT card, put a chord though it and carry it around my neck like a business card at a trade show.

Whenever I encounter trouble I yell CRT!!!! like FBI! or NCIS!

That always backs them off...

There are 3 main types of pepper spray.

1)the kind that comes out in a wide spray of little droplets.
2)A narrow stream of liquid
3) A narrow stream of foam or gel.

The advantage of the first type is its easier to hit with

The disadvantage a medium wind can blow it back on you. The narrow foam or gel kind is good for the beach. They say it works on dogs better than humans.

If a guy pulls a knife or is going to beat you unless you are Steven Segal have an extra wallet or money clip with a $50 bill on the outside with ones under it. Throw it to him underhanded and run in the other direction. Pull it out slowly then throw it. Learn the phrase for Ill give up the money in Spanish.

Do not walk in downtown San Jose at night. In the day wear boring cheaper clothing with no bling and keep your phone hidden. Where colors like blues and grey . No bright orange t shirts

When I come back I am going to buy a pepper spray in San Jose just for dogs. I will use the coughing up the money plan in most other situations.

I am not a lawyer so what I am about to say is what I looked up on google. It may or may not be true. I heard it is illegal to carry a knife in Costa Rica unless you use it for work. I have heard that you can get 2 years in prison. I have also heard that if a cop finds one on a tourist and it is an ordinary pocket knife and you say you did not know it was illegal they will take your knife but not arrest you. I do not know if you can count on that. I also think they do not normally arrest unless you were stabbing someone or threatening someone. However I bet some locals carry illegally. In small towns farmers can openly carry a knife on there belt or a machete. (I guess its for work) and no one bothers them.

While going to the beach in Costa Rica the cops stopped my drivers van and checked his license. He asked him if he or his passengers had any weapons. We all said no and the cop left. The driver said in Costa Rica a cop can randomly search people without probable cause.

I thought of another plan. Have a Tica with you with big breasts.
Train her to lift up her shirt when you are mugged. When the mugger is distracted throw a
hay maker to his temple and knock him out.

Also, carry a 'burner' wallet; photocopy of passport, sacrificial credit card, $20. Everything else in the room safe. Use a burner phone that you can drop; refurbished phone, local SIM, hobby social media accounts.

Nothing you lose is worth your time, freedom, or life.

That's a good trip about getting a burner wallet. Back at home, I only carry enough cash with me for the lady I'm seeing when going to an incall. Never thought of doing this when travelling.
