Good article on the lack of street signs in San Jose.

I've only been twice there twice, but lack of street signs has driven me crazy both times. Visitors have two options to familiarize themselves the city:
1. intentionally spend a few hours wandering, getting lost, so you can start to memorize the area around you
2. keep a running count in your head of each street you cross to figure out where you are at any given point

Even the cabbies have no idea what street they are on half the time.
$2MM sounds like a lot for a bunch of painted signs. They should just hire some of the local graffiti artists tag all the building sitting at intersections w/ proper street names/numbers.
