Where can i buy a space heater in San Jose? I've been to every home furnishings shop/electronics place I can find in San Pedro, and the Walmart in Guadalupe, but no luck so far. This former Texas handles 90+ degree weather just fine but when it drops into the 50's I'm freezing.

I'm using the term "calentador" but that's not helping. Is there another word for it in Tico? Or do they just not have space heaters here and bundle up at home when it gets cold?

I looked all around down there for my chica who wanted one for those "cold" times. Nothing. Need to have someone bring you one from here. Did that for her and then she didn't use it, worried about electric bill. Go figure. electric blanket was the answer.

I brought one from the USA but I have seen one somewhere here, maybe it was EPA.
Here is one for sale in on Craigslist:

I have seen them in PriceMart before. But as with many things in this country, once it's gone you may never see it in stock again.

Ok well luckily I am going home soon so I'll just pick up a small one in the USA.

This is my first year up in the city, but I'm thinking they are scarce because the cold nights aren't that common. So far in four months, I've used an extra blanket or slept with clothes four or five nights. I'm digging sleeping under covers every night. :D

If you can find one called "Comfort Zone" grab it. It is about 15 x10x 5, would fit nicely in your luggage, and has various helpful adjustments (1300-1500 wattage, thermostat, fan speed, tip over shut off, small handle). I bought it at Menards in Illinois, but I am sure they are around the other big box stores or ebay. It is black, metal of some kind, had mine 2 years, love it.

I didn't have a chance to look for long, but recently saw a insert for EPA, a chain of stores. Thought I might have seen a couple in there. Might be worth checking out.
