from some of the websites I've looked at, you will be lucky to get one thousand dollars a month and most contracts will be max 6 to 12 months.

400 to 600 a month is more likely.

have you considered other countries with stronger economies?

I'd be amazed if you can get a work visa, but I don't think it's impossible, just hard as hell from what I've heard.

There is no shortage of gringos seeking employment as English teachers. You will not be able to legally work seeing as how you will be in the country on a tourist visa. Those schools that are willing to hire folks without legal status will take full advantage of that fact and pay you about $5.00 an hour and only give you a few hours of work a day until you have been there a year or two.

You certainly will not be able to earn a sufficient sum of money to live any kind of comfortable life unless you get 2 or 3 others to share rent on a decent place and eat all your meals at home.

You are far more likely to earn a living working in a sports book. They are more likely to hire an English speaking "tourist" and while the base pay is not much if you have any talent for the work you can earn some commissions that can supplement your base wage.

There is almost zero possibility of getting a work permit as employers have a large pool of English speakers looking for employment so they are not going to go through the hassle of getting you a work permit.

I have taught ESL in quite a few countries. Sometimes in a registered school, sometimes freelance, sometimes both. Your serious advantage in this is your masters degree. That should open doors for a university gig. TESL certification is nice to have. But in your case probably won't have much of an effect since you have a teachers license.

My strategy would be to check Dave's ESL cafe out. You can find many good teaching employment options. In ESL you are a sort of new Porsche among a sea of burnt out Pintos with your qualifications. Maybe do a year max in CR. Even with a university gig there is no future there. Then head to teaching heaven otherwise known Taiwan, and China. Do that for awhile then head to the Middle East. Serious cash down there.

1. you will not need a work visa as many of my friends have been here in CR teaching english

2. as for the pay..you are looking at 600-800 depending on the school

3. if you didnt do yoru certificate yet, you should do it in CR..they tend to place their students
