Does anyone here have or know of a good trustworthy mechanic. English speaking a plus but not required.

Going to depend on the problem......

A/C car goes to one shop
Electrical, another shop
Fuel injection, another shop
Motor issue, another shop

And what area?

Sorry for the vague response but it is kind of the way it works

I´m looking for a mechanic that I can take a used car to, have him look at it, and tell me whether or not its worth buying.

I use a body guy who sends stuff to his mechanic and does a good job for a good price. Two of my friends/clients used him for body/paint work and calls him the only honest Tico he has met (he now lives in Granada). His shop is in Aserri, but easy to get back and forth to from downtown by bus (drop off and pick up). Let me know if you want to meet him, I have property there and would be glad to go with you.

I have a good one that speaks 100% english. I went through at least 3 of them, and after being ripped off by them, I've stayed with this guy for 2 years. He just installed injectors and an oxygen sensor to get performance back to factor on my 4runner. I bought the parts in the US via Amazon and he did the work and charged me 60,000 colones (1 day of work). Not the cheapest, but at least he is honest. PM if you want his number.

Also - if anyone is driving a older car and wondering why you pay so much in gas - this is the number one reason in CR. The gas is dirty and ruins carburetors and injection systems. This make me laugh when I see people filing their Porsche or Ferarri at the gas station. Those engines must be a bitch of an expense down here.
