Anything that depends on financing via life settlements is shaky to say the least...even if they are real (see Mr. Rothstein's recent conviction in Florida for the bogus type). The insurance companies justifiably hate them and, more importantly, the Justice Department has taken a more active interest in any payoff that isn't the result of what's called "insurable interest". This goes with the hard scrutiny and legislative action against such as CDO's ( it's really a type of insurance where there's no "insurable interest" though it's deliberately not called "insurance"). As he said, not for the faint of heart, do you your deep due diligence and don't bet the rent.
