About $5.00 per hour plus commission. Usually a 10 hour day 6 days a week with no overtime or benefits.

As is the case with most things, it depends on who you know, what kind of experience, etc...

If you have no real sportsbook experience, and you are an undocumented worker, you're going to have to find a smaller place.. and they will pay you significantly less than someone with experience and able to work legally.

However, a lot of places will put a premium on being a gringo, especially if you're reliable and willing to take on extre responsibility. It's hard to find Tico's you can trust. Not just for honesty purposes.. but trust them to show up on time, trust them to take initiative (most tico's will do their job but nothing more), trust them take responsibility for anything.

You really have to make friends if you want to make a decent salary here..

The "plus commission" is the key to success. Sign me up! :P

I'll be down between the 15th and 1st. Let's make some stew! :!:

Gentlemen,

A few questions, what are the best ways to find and apply for these positions? Is it best to show up and start applying or look on Craiglist related sites?

I've looked on a few betting websites based out of Costa Rica and found zero employment information. I called one company and they told me you had to have a proper working visa in Costa Rica before you could even consider being hired. Their human resources department provided very little information, to be honest.

I've been very interested in this for a few months now but am finding little information. I'm also interested in Panama but running into brick walls there as well.

Thanks for you help.....

None of the big places will hire you openly without documentation, which means you need to either make friends with someone on the inside (bars are usually a good place to meet these kinds of people) or find a smaller shop that doesn't operate openly.

The third option is to work at the places that cater to hiring undocumenteds, but they are likely to screw you on wages and then close up shop and disappear at the end of the sports season.

But right now it's tough, there are a lot of unemployed ticos. The economy has hit the gambling business hard and business is way down, that translates to lots of laid off people.
