Has anyone had problems with wiring money to a CR bank and then the CR bank delays the deposit into your CR bank account for about two months while they loan out your money?

I wired money from WaMu to Promerica six weeks ago. I traced it from WaMu to the intermediary (AmEx Bank) to Promerica.

Promerica cannot find it, claims they never got it. Banco Nacional is also famous for that scam.

Any suggestions?

Brother DiegoC--Yes that's it. Don't know when they shortened their name or if it's just their nom de bank in the U.S.

I have an account with HSBC. They are telling me that there is a foreign transaction fee for withdrawing money in Costa Rica. That is total crap.

Make friends with a bank manager or two. It has worked wonders for me.

Went to Promerica today with all the paper work proving my money was sent to them for deposit in my wife's account. They are investigating. Woppie! The truth is that they have invested my money on a short term loan -- making money while my funds sit in limbo not making interest for me.

I have never had a problem with wiring money to my Scotia Bank account. It usually takes three business days. But my wife is not on that account and could not have retrieved the money. She needed money because she, like a tyypcial Costa Rican, does not plan ahead and came up short on funds to run the household.

What makes me the most frustrated about this is my own stupidity. I was in the US for three weeks and could have brought the cash back (for you IRS and Customs people monitoring the site it was less than 10K) but the wife wanted it now, immediately.

I should have followed my gut, told her some BS story to stall her and then just bring the cash back when I returned to CR.
