After 10 visits, I'm moving to CR next month, I'm thinking of bringing a cell with Wi-Fi hotspot feature. Anyone tried this in San Jose area? Will it work? Who offers best 3G service? Cost?

Thanks

yes it will work but it burns up your prepaid minutes quickly. i've had good luck with Movistar. I've heard Claro and even Kolbi have upped their service recently.

Make sure your phone has the 850 frequency for 3g.

Wifi is free.. If you want to use prepaid, get a data plan. As i recall, it was pretty cheap. It is insane to use your your minutes for data. It will burn up in minutes.

Use a quad band phone (most newer phones are) to cover most of your international needs.

Make sure you

ICE\Kolbi has a daily internet plan on their prepaid\recargo sims that I like. If I need the net and am not going to be around my computer, or a hotel's or somebody's computer, you just dial in a 4 digit code and your phone is set for internet for 24 hours. Dirt cheap. They just deduct it out of your bucket balance. Same thing for 3 day-- a tad cheaper; a week--cheaper; etc.
