Just want to make clear with my somewhat cynical and slightly tongue-in-cheek original post that I'm not referring so much to my own novia experience (which despite its ultimate futility had some nice moments that I will always cherish) but rather what I would advise going off the sum total of knowledge and experience as expressed many times over on the subject here on the board.

And no wonder. More often than not these "novia" hook-ups occur via a PFP encounter with a prostitute - where a pre-existing culture and mindset exists of taking advantage of the "customer" for the best possible deal. Said prostitute may genuinely have a "heart of gold" and successfully transition to "former prostitute" status, but more often than not, you end up with a situation like that detailed in the currently running thread about Karina's sister Sophia. If that sounds peachy to you, go for it.

Personally, if I were ever again to jump into the novia game, here's how I would do it. First, have the luxury of spending an extended time living in the country - say, three months minimum - and immerse myself in the culture and in better learning the language. Next, make a concerted effort to meet regular "non-pro" girls with good jobs from good families, skewing towards their late-20's/early 30's, preferrably with no prior marriages or Ch*ldren, with interests and hobbies in common with my own. Finally, actually court them - spend time getting know each other, go out on regular dates - all the while offering the respect they deserve and insisting on the same in return.

And like QuickBlueFox said in another thread recently, I probably wouldn't pick Costa Rica as my first choice to try this - especially when places like Medellin and Lima seem to offer much better chances of success.

I could not agreee more GR. The place to search for a novia for those so inclined is far away from pfp. There is nothing wrong with looking for the novia expericence but pfp is the wrong place in my opinion. I have followed that course since starting the hobby of international mongering about 4 years ago. I was very tempted by one special girl after less than a year but didn't let my self do it.
You are also correct that CR is not the best place for searching for a novia. Places like Peru, Colombia and SE asia are far better options. I personally know women in Peru are very receptive to meeting Americans and have a special girl there now. In fact my last trip to CR mongering wasn't as much fun as the norm after experiencing the intense true novia experience in Peru about a month earilier. You just get something more from the real girlfreind than you do from the gfe experience in pfp. rbc100
