Post subject:  Recommendations for a Lawyer

It looks like my ex may be pursuing Ch*ld support from me; oh joy :(

Like I need this on top of the rest of everything else. Be that as it may:

Can some one recommend a good lawyer, based in CR of course, who practices CR Family Law?? I need to ask questions first and then find out my rights as a foreigner.

I checked through the board and did some research online. I did find the post referencing the law that I could be detained but need true hard facts. It's not that I don't believe the post it's just that there may be untruths in it.

PM or post your choice. If they are a friend of yours please let them, and me, know I may be contacting them.

One of the best law firms in the Central Valley is Facio Abogados in Escazu
they are expensive but highly educated with many attorneys receiving advanced degrees in the states. See Facioabogados.com Great lawyer there is Rafael Canas.

Hola Zion, I'm curious if you could give us an idea of what their fees are, hourly rate, fee for a specific service? Thanks.

flyboy,
your best bet is to call them as rates change all the time. They pretty much charge comparable to north american lawyers which is very high
for Costa Rica. But, they are very good. For example Rafael Canas
one of the partners was trained in the U.S. at Stanford University for a graduate degree in law. Their phone number is 506-2201-8700 their website is faciolaw.com. Rafael Canas speaks english and will refer you to their family law attorney. Good Luck!!

Luckily, at the moment and forever I hope, I won't need a family practice lawyer. My last lawyer in the US on my divorce cost me $350 an hour and eventually 100K total. Can you see why I'm staying away from a LT relationship around here. Most lawyers here a lot less, but if these fellas are charging that much, I'd say they're doing OK here, no not OK, outrageously well!

You may find this harsh... suck it up and be a man. If you brought a Ch*ld into this world you have a responsibility. I hope your "oh joy" comment doesn't reflect your attitude towards the Ch*ld for god's sake. The real question is... if you DO have a Ch*ld you are helping to SUPPORT that Ch*ld... right?

In answer to this YES I am. I'll also be posting in the Rules of Engagement section some information I have received.

The oh joy was due to my current state of financial distress and I didn't really need to add this to it. But it is mine and it is my responsibility to assist in any way I can.

She and I have talked and she will not be seeking legal action.

Update: See new thread about "Pension Alimentaria"
