The extended family helps my relationship work. Eveling's ex's family takes care of her son whenever we need them to and for a pittance. He gets to stay close to his Dad and we have time to spend on the babe (and, yes, we make sure that her son is included with his little sister).

My girl's little sister is 25, a med student with an 8 yr old girl who is best friends with Eveling's 6 yr old son. Her sister is there for us to watch 'Tasha in the evenings if we want to go out. I pay her $5000c most nights. It helps her with school expenses and is not too much for the security we get when 'Tasha is with her.

Eveling's little brother, Carlos, is attending University here. His only free day is Sunday so he spends Sunday afternoons at my house watching the game on the tube or listening to music. If I want some privacy I slip him a few thousand colones and he is happy at the Mall. She has another sister, Kimmly, who is 4yrs old. Her Mom is 43, basically 15 years younger than me.

That's the up side. The downside: Eveling's Dad, who is my age, has Parkinson's and is no longer able to work. His second wife left him when he could no longer provide for her (he and her Mom have not been together for years). He is basically destitute living in Lemon and I provide some monetary support. Why? My girl cares about her family and thinking about her Dad, homeless and without a meal depresses her (as it should...she is not a heartless bitch). The little I spend does nothing to change my lifestyle and means everything to him. I'm happy to help.

I think this extended family is fairly typical. I can't imagine trying to separate her from her family or doing without their assistance. I would say that we are pretty interdependent and I like it that way. I suggest that I am getting the better end of the deal!

PAC55 Yes those details sound very familiar, the extended family does babysit and nanny for a good price though yes? Wouldnt find that deal in the US.... It seems odd the very familiar thing that I see popping up again and again is the father is divorce and second divorced from second wife and has no money to support any of his prior progeny.....I see this again and again and again...the middle age dead beat that then becomes a pitty object that needs a hand out.....
You are doing the right thing and its not too much out of your pocket....well done...

I'm counting three dependents I didn't have last year and when I am eligible for SS, another $600 a month for every minor! I think I'm covered.... 8)
