Doc. says I have to have a hip replacement. Anyone knows how soon after the operation I can be back at the mongering scene. Will I have to do only cowgirl for a while or can I be fully functional ? |

Thought this was a joke in this section. I know 2 people who have had hip replacement. One did very well, the other not so good. I could be facing one soon. So, I would say in no particular order, age, surgeon, physical fitness, and following up with physical therapy. Have you thought about having it done in CR?? Regards, 911 Driver |

No, doing it here since I have good insurance. Paying an arm and a leg for it so may as well get the benefit. Doc does about 20 a week, hip and knee only. Says 99% success so praying I am in that 99%. |

I've had both hips replaced and I would say you need 2 months of recovery and physical therapy to be able to perform. I'm almost 70 and had a hip replaced Feb.5th and I was banging away this past Weekend. You need to make sure you do your hip related exercises so you will be good to go! Your hip will be stiff for a while but you're just breaking in new muscles. Pura Vida Propman48 |

However, because of my age, they want to hold off as long as possible so that they don't end up doing another one when I'm 62. How is your recovery coming along? |

BreadandRice, it is now 3 weeks since I did the surgery.. The dressing on the cut was removed after 1 week. Have follow set of restrictions in the way you use the hip and there are a set of stretching exercises to be done daily. The pain pills were not needed by me after 3 weeks. Blood thinner is used to prevent blood clots forming in the leg for up to 2 weeks. I used a walker for a week and a cane for the next two weeks. I am just starting to walk with out a cane. I was allowed to drive after 2 weeks but have not done so yet. Will update in a little while. |

A lot of research is being done on stem cell therepy. I am sure there will be a lot of options depending on the type of damage to the joint. I needed the new hip because of damage in a car accident and the techniques used are much better than a-few years ago . The operation takes one to one and half hour. They make you stand and walk about 8 hours after surgery. You go home the next day. I have not devoted time to new stem cell research. |

He says he has not been able to get a hard on for a few years and has had 2 treatments in the US that are quite expensive. He told me he needs to get at least 1 more but right after the 2nd set of injections he started feeling things come back to life. He wants to come to Costa Rica in October and see if the girls can help him out some but he also wants to see if he can find a doctor or clinic in Costa Rica that can do the blood work and injections. Some observations on hip replacement after 2 months. Ankle swells up by evening sometimes Doc. says can happen for up to three months. The cut is still a little tender and heel of the foot tends to be numb. Neurologist says the stress on the nerves that were moved out of the way during the operation causes this and should fade. I hope so. I have not walked a lot but think every thing else should be fine. Not tried missionary yet either. All in all it is good to walk with out pain. Oh BTW after taking blood thinners for 3 weeks after the surgery I had bleeding from the rectum for a couple of days. Stopped the thinner pills and all was well. Bit of a fright there. |
