Any one have any recommendations on a good tequila ?? Priced between $50 and $150, or more but not like a Louis Tre cognac.

Not Herradura, Patron, Milagro, Cabo Wabo, Hornitos, Altos or any of the usual spirits. Jose Cuervo doesn't count; I'm not sure what it is. The 1800 isn't bad but the regular I personally can do with out.

I enjoy a good sipping tequila every once in a while and want to expand my horizons.

One of my favorite expressions:
One Tequila, Two Tequila, Three Tequila floor. Wimp :D :D :D

I'm a huge fan of Espolon...very smooth and I will drink it straight on the rocks or my favorite way is mixed with ruby red grapefruit juice, ice, and salt. It's less than 30 bucks so definitely give it a try! If you want to spend more than 50 I go for DeLeon Platinum. Again, I'll drink that one straight on the rocks or with the grapefruit as well. I am more of a blanco tequila fan than reposado. I won't say no to the golden styles but I definitely prefer the blanco.

Scroll day and look at the ratings of some of what you are interested in Whisky Fun. Lots of other things besides whisky. Good info.

http://www.whiskyfun.com/world-whisky.html#spirits

My experience is that most Anejo and Extra Anejo are fairly nice, at least. Tequila distilleries, not unlike many other producers, tend to pay more attention to their older, higher end products that the mass produced shit. This does not mean they are all good- many are hyped. They tend to differ greatly by flavor profile, and making a recommendation is hard without knowing someone's preferences. For example, asking someone the same questions about single malt scotch (Of which I have tried and rated over 1000 expressions, so i do know a bit) is equally hard. I could tell you that Ardbeg 10 is the best bang single malt, but if you don't like a heavily peated whisky, your going to hate it.

I am a fan of El Tesero's products. El Reformador is nice as well.

As an aside, a great place to go sipping tequila is Leyva's liqor store in TJ. Always about twenty things out to try, including some very small distillery;s products.

i think most cut their teeth on silvers and then graduate to reposados and anejos these days
i am in the reposado phase and find a lot of the moderately priced tequilas quite good
a staple for me is a cazadores reposado typically around $30, don julio is around the same
I like deleon but you are going to pay closer to $100 for that
was given a bottle of patron platinum for a birthday and that was delicious but $200 a bottle for tequila? idts
i like going into a place like total wine and spirits and looking at the taste scores and seeing whats on sale
i think most of us have a cringe experience w cuervo and remember that taste going down as well as coming back up
if you like an inexpensive sipping tequila milagro is great for the price
