Back in 2006-2007, I had a couple of sessions in exchange for MP3 players. And not talkin Ipods, I'm talkin about those crappy Chinese ones ($25 each) that were really intended to be disposable I think.  So what did you barter for p4p? I know a few who used Iphones to get sessions. |

On different occasions - - - - 10 kilos of rice, 2 loaves of bread, a few pounds beans, salt and sugar, electric service, water service, phones, TV's, fancy underwear, shampoo and conditioner, dinners, breakfasts, a pedestal fan, a washing machine, tablet and laptop computers, condoms and candy bars, laundry service. And this is the best one. An 8 day excursion with her into the wilderness of Nicaragua. I paid only for food, visas and for 15 hours on 2 busses and 3 taxis (each way) to get us to and from the house she owns in northern Nicaragua, and for her electric bill ($7). It was a wonderful 8 days. There's more, but I can't remember it all. I'm amazed at how easy it is to barter. Be assured, I ALWAYS get my money's worth. I love Costa Rica. I'm addicted to sweets - - and they all live in San Jose. I'm so lucky here. And (believe me) I have NO game, no B.S., very little Spanish, and I'm an old gringo who is hung like a light switch. I don't know why I'm so lucky. |

A Nica ask me to bring down a name-brand hair straightener, that wasn't available in CR, in exchange for an hour session. The straightener was on sale and it cost me $25. She liked it so much she told a few of her chica friends. My subsequent trip I brought down 3 straighteners in exchange for 3 sessions with 3 different Nicas. |

Bartering can be beneficial to us because you get back sessions based on perceived value which is usually more than the actual value in US. |

Retired computer equipment (specifically laptops) are very good for this as well. Cell phones too, but they need to be modern smartphones now. No crappy flip-phones anymore. Cheap tablets are always in demand, but you need to watch the quality of such. Also, most chicas expect tablets to accept a simcard, which is normal in every other country but the USA. Shoes can be very cheap off of Amazon, and knock-off relabeled Michael Korrs stuff goes down really well. I have also bought walmart-cheap K*ds clothes for favoritas and gotten far more than my moneys' worth in return. I once had a chica ask for a replacement hard drive for a laptop. It costs 3 times amazon pricing over the counter in chepe. It wasn't the best deal, but cheaper than cash. I also Moneygram'd a nica busfare back to chepe to work. Of course I got hit with the extra fees, but what da hell, it was still cheaper than cash. Who knew cash costs so much!
