They will ask you where you have been in the last 10 years and why you went. They also asked me why I wanted Global Entry and I told them I will be making frequent trips looking for a place to retire. They will take your picture and your fingerprints and verify your application info. 15 minutes tops. You should get an activation email within 2 hours and then you are golden. A card will be mailed to you within a week but you do not use it unless you are doing border crossings into Canada or Mexico. I have used it 3 times since February coming back through FLL. It is heaven! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Don't lie. They will have you scan your fingerprints and that will bring up your history. Something came up for me that happened 42 years ago and even I didn't remember what it was. |

When I applied for Global Entry the fee was $100, If you add a NEXUS card for Canadian border crossing to your application the fee for both is $50. It's $50 less if you get both, which makes no sense, when I asked the interviewer about this, he just shrugged his shoulders and said "who knows? it's the government". The only problem with getting an additional Nexus (or SENTRI) card is that the interview has to be at a border crossing, like Detroit. As far as my particular interview, it was really a piece of cake, about ten really basic questions and then the fingerprints. This may not be the case for everyone, but mine was incredibly easy. Good luck. |

Did mine in Tampa, at that time they did not have a machine in the office to demonstrate what you would do. Instead he showed me a power point presentation. The agent interviewing me noticed I was a retired fed and that was the only thing we talked about as he was nearing retirement and had some practical questions of his own curiosity. Though I guess my pedigree probably made a difference the interview was totally pleasant. My understanding though from a few other friends and by my interview the real grilling is done in the investigation portion and the interview is mainly for the finger prints and to acclimate you to the machines. The one point I do agree from the previous poster though is absolutely tell the truth, I can assure you the Feds have a wealth of information on you regardless of those who think they have always had a low profile. Also be aware INS Agents are very adept at profiling. Once you have it though it is great, virtually no more lines. |

Good luck. If you apply for GE, I don't think you need NEXUS or SENTRI. It's included. They gave me a GE card and told me it was good for land crossings between Mexico and Canada. On the back of my GE card, it has a SENTRI lane logo. |

as long as this has been brought up, my understanding when I got signed up a few years ago that it was good for 5 years, right? So my 5 years are up next Dec, ( I think) , so how are they handing renewals of Global Entry ? |

Renewals only require the payment and any updates to your status. It is all done on-line. |

Nexus or Sentri was only for land border crossings. Anyway at least I saved $50 bucks. |

Though It's a formality as is the initial interview.... Always tell the truth... You don't have to tell them you go to Costa Rica for the girls, you can just tell them come down Becuase you like the country and the people.... When they ask why you want GE... Tel them it so you don't have to stand on live... |

A: CBP began issuing Global Entry radio frequency identification (RFID) cards on July 12, 2011, to new Global Entry members who are U.S. citizens, U.S. lawful permanent residents or Mexican nationals (who do not already have a SENTRI card) at no additional cost. |

Your right, except for a few exceptions like needing a NEXUS card for entry into Canada ( GE card only good for getting back into the U.S.) and the option of using a NEXUS card instead of a passport for Canada-U.S. air travel, you don't need a NEXUS/SENTRI card if you have GE. If I knew these were the only differences I would of just applied for GE. Part of my confusion was that I was never issued a GE card, because I applied before July 11 2012, now they are automatically issued. Thanks for bringing this up. Well at least I saved $50 bucks. |

I was all prepared to give reasons why I need it and why I travel to Colombia so much. Instead, they only asked if I have traveled to Mexico or Canada in the past year and half. I said yes and he proceeded to tell me how I can use the GE card at border crossings.. Then he showed me how to use the kiosk and that was it.. In and out in less than 15 minutes. |
