I'm not sure what category to post this tribute so smack talk seems as good as any.

I want to thank any member here who is a vet for their service to country and for me personally living in a free country sleeping safe at night and not fearing death and destruction by evil doers.

Freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom to choose religion was not won by reporters, speechwriters or priests, rabbis or ministers. It CERTAINLY was not won by pontificating politicians... It was won by the guts and glory of our heroes who often gave their all so the rest of us can live in peace, I humbly offer my thanks, fellas.

I had to laugh when I was looking through a souvenir shop here in Costa Rica, picking out some tee shirts to bring home for some friends and family. One of them said something like
"Costa Rica, we have no army..."

Now for the record, I want to affirm that I love Costa Rica and it's people, but this is an irritant to me...

I'm not sure why that is a source of pride, but just for funsies I decided to taunt the sales clerk who seemed proud of that. I said; "Yes you do !" He then stated "Oh we have police force but no army!" I repeated, "Yes you do !" Frustrated, he finally asked how I thought that.

I promptly stated; "Let's say your buddy Mr. Ortega in Nicaragua decides he wants to claim a few miles of your Northern Border, who you gonna call, Ghostbusters ??? I don't think so...It'll be good old Americans from the USA who will arrive here and send him and his cohorts packing and I think you and every other Costa Rican knows that..."

I dropped the shirt on the floor and stated "Oh clumsy me, so sorry" and walked out...

can definitely get behind the sentiment of thanking those who have fought and served this once great country.
i can only hope in my heart that it was not in vain.
hardly seems appropriate that we have a single day to acknowledge your sacrifices.

My wife and I would both like to extend our appreciation to all the men and women who have served this great country of ours. Having done 20 years Navy time and the wife doing 16 years, we understand the difficulties and hardships of a military person.

Especially like to thank those that served over the last 12 years as it has been an extremely difficult period to be in the military.

To all that has served: Thanks from the bottom of our hearts.

Have a Great Day,

Dave/Deb
