http://digicc.com/fido/

This is will boggle your mind...Take your time and follow the instructions.
After reading each window, click on the boy in the lower right corner.
In the last window, type your numbers in the white box.

You will be amazed...and no, I don't know how it's done.

If anyone can figure this out.....I'd be interested in your answer.

Hola Ding Dong.

Interesting, It always seems to work. This may be a possible solution:

The solution has something to do with the number 9.

I'll pick a date as an example - May 18th. So when I wrote down 518, then jumbled the numbers to 185. Then when I
subtracted as I got 333. Anytime you do this, add the digits together. 3+3+3 = 9. These digits will always add up to 9 or 18
if you wrote down a four digit number. Then the puzzle asked us to circle one of the numbers, thereby eliminating it.

When I subtracted 518-185= 333, I eliminated one of the "3's". Well, the puzzle knows that these digits must add up to 9 or
18, so it uses simple algebra to come up with the number I eliminated.

I got this far with it, but it may need further explanation or I could be way off.

Pura vida, Kenj8

There's at least one cheese-eater in every group..,. or one banana in every bunch.

How is this relevant?
The instructions say clearly, to use different numbers.

This supposed to be a source of amusement not a bone of contention but: let's take zero off the table. Yes, it's a number but adding/subtracting zero leaves the operation unchanged, multiplying by zero reduces the whole number to zero and dividing by zero is mathematically impermissible: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dividing_by_zero
Bottom line: This fun series of operations works perfectly every time for whole numbers greater than zero. Ho ho.
