You may think that's funny.
I don't.
The pilot was a friend.

If you look at the pictures of the plane before impact you will see that a elevator trim tab is missing.
Loss of that part would make the plane uncontrollable at racing speeds.

I am willing to bet that will be the NTSB determination, as to cause of accident.

Should we have airshows at all?
I guess Uncle Sam will decide, and of course, idiots like you will have a say also.

Most people like danger, but want it vicariously.
That is why we have big crowds at races (Nascar, Formula 1, Motorcycles, Offshore Powerboats, Reno, whatever).

I don't care if they ban racing (unlikely), as I will still get my danger firsthand, somehow.
There will probably be some knee-jerk attempts to stop air racing, but they are unlikely to succeed.
Newer safety rules may make the racing so remote from viewers that it could kill the sport.
People get what they deserve, so I'll just watch this play out.

I still think ReadyOnSpot is a jerk.

edit was for a spelling error.

Perhaps you might want to reflect on this

"Among the dead were the pilot and eight spectators. Officials said 69 people were treated at hospitals, including 36 who have been released and 31 who remain there. Nine were in critical condition late Saturday."

and reconsider the appropriateness of your post.

Had 2 friends there, one was in the area where the plane impacted. He said it was absolute chaos at first,
there were body parts and blood every where. Plane parts appear to be less than 2 feet long. The crash formed a crater 3 feet deep and 9 feet across, thank god it didn't explode on impact, the plane just disinigrated on impact, maybe he didn't have that much fuel left. It's really a bad scene and they haven't released the injured and dead names yet.

Air shows are part of the aviation culture. I work in the aviation field and personally do not attend these shows. Do I think they should be banned? Yes! Do I think prostitution should be legal in my state? Yes! So you see you don't always get what you want because other people have a say in our country. I think air shows with static displays only are the best way to go. What do you think that will do to the price of a ticket? Final thought don't give this topic anymore time then it deserves.

Ok I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that air shows had strict rules that required the planes to always fly parallel to the crowds to avoid this type of accident. WAS it Paris air show had a big accident when a plane went at the crowd right?

Nascar has rules about tires staying on the cars , but they come off from time to time and end up in the stands, and no amount of fences will stop them from bouncing off some one's head.

Hockey pucks are supposed to stay on the ice, but they some how clear the glass from time to time to find some head.

Condoms break from time to time with results being not good.

The thing is accidents happen, unless we all want to live in a rubber room, you take your chances. Just read the back side disclaimer on any ticket you buy to see a event, its is there for a reason,

No wait I was told by a Attorney in a law class once never ever read the disclaimer, that way on the stand you will not be lying when you claim to have no knowledge of the event, product or service may hurt you.

And as pointed out above proves to be right,a part fell off, there was not going to be a good ending to the race no matter what, and we should be glad that the toll was this low but zero would have been a lot better. Remember this plane we designed to kill a lot more then just 8 or 9 people at time

I work in the aviation industry as well.
One of the unfortunate spectators that died was my coworker of 20 yrs.
Can't say more until they officially release the names.
May he rest in peace.

I strongly question ROS' taste in his language on this tragedy. For those wondering what this is about:

The point was...the NTSB did not have any thought that OLD people flying OLD aircraft at HIGH speeds over spectators might lead to an accident causing some deaths. Old people and old aircraft should be displayed in musems and not alloud to fly near people on the ground. If they must fly send them out to the desert or over the ocean.

Someone should have told the pilot he is not the same as he was when he was young and neither was the aircraft.

ReadyOnSpot: You are an ass.
Your poor attempt at humor on the first post shows that.
Your second statement, as a justification, is even worse.

What does the age of the equipment and pilot have do do with this?
I accuse you of making unwarranted assumptions.

A few years back I trekked out from Boston to see the Reno Air races. The unlimiteds are magnficient ships. It is really something to see them fly by. But a rule at all these air shows is no fly overs of the viewing stands. Unfortunately here, it looks like this pilot lost part of his elevator (a part of the airplane's tail). It looks like he tried hard to avoid any viewers. I doubt he had much control of his ship.

Should these race be banned? Should we ban Nascar races, Formula One races? Accidents happen, and as long as the viewers want to be close to the action these events will happen from time to time.

In the law, it's called the doctrine of Assumption of the Risk.
