So, how about this; until you actually speak the language well enough to consistently use the past tense (Phuck it, preterito o imperfecto), the present and the future (either), you STFU and stop correct other monger's Spanish?

I don't think this is anything more than venting.
The OP can commit spelling and grammatical errors in multiple languages.
So what?

The thing is, "Columbia" isn't Spanish at all, but the feminine version of "Columbus", which in turn is the English form of the name of that certain (in)famous explorer.

What I'd like to know is if the Costa Rican colon was named after the Spanish form of Columbus, then where does "Colombia" come from? Is it a case of Spanish being translated to English then back into Spanish? :lol:

Am I the only one who finds it funny as hell, the latest CRT trend to correct the spelling of Colombia (not ColUmbia)? The irony is, most (not all) of the guys doing so speak horrible Spanish. What is that expression about people in glass houses? Thank you for getting the point, this is the fun stuff section, no? My point, which the others seem to have missed, is that it is silly to correct the spelling of others on a mongering forum, and that this is one error that guys have jumped on, who cannot often not form one spoke sentence in Spanish.

The name Colombia has its origin in the name of the explorer who discovered America, Christopher Columbus (CristÃ³bal ColÃ³n in Spanish, Cristoforo Colombo in Italian): "Colombia's name references the explorer Christopher Columbus. The name was conceived by the revolutionary Francisco de Miranda as a reference to the New World, especially to all American territories and colonies under Spanish and Portuguese rule. The name originally belonged to a short-lived republic consisting of present-day Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, and Panama (see Great Colombia). This republic collapsed in 1830 when Venezuela and Ecuador separated, and the Cundinamarca region which remained became a new country, the Republic of New Granada. There is a town in Tennessee named Bolivar. It is in honor of Juan Simon Bolivar. There is even a statue of Bolivar in the town square. So how do the natives pronounce it? Ball-ah-ver

The colÃ³n (named after Christoffa Corombo, known as Christopher Columbus in English and as CristÃ³bal ColÃ³n in Spanish) is the currency of Costa Rica. The plural is colones in Spanish, but English speakers often say colons instead. The ISO 4217 code is CRC

Colombia is named after the world famous Lieutenant Columbo. One day, he drove his 1950 Peugeot with his basset hound down thru central america into present day Colombia. the natives were so taken by his supposed gullibility, that they named themselves and their land after him. as an aside, Lieutenant, is his proper first name.
