The R&R Hall of Fame is a joke. Among this years nominees are Alice Cooper (finally!), Bon Jovi, Neil Diamond, the Beastie Boys (WTF?), Donovan, LL Cool J (WTF?), the J. Geils Band and a few others. Why are Abba, Madonna, Leonard Cohen, Genesis and Run DMC in when bands like Rush, Kiss, Jethro Tull and Deep Purple not in? Ridiculous.

I concur...Mark (Farner), Don and Mel. A Michigan band. "Closer to Home/I'm your Captain"..what a song! A classic! Bought a couple of their albums when they first came out. It was my first year of college... 1970/71. Loved the double live album. After Cream, they were the greatest three-piece band at the time.
Shea Stadium, 1971...

While concurring with the above (Mark Farner is still out there doin' it soulfully), the new 3-DVD set of HOF performances is worth consideration, if only for the variety of artists playing together who'd never do so otherwise. Check it out: http://www.usatoday.com/life/music/news ... 9_ST_N.htm

It's a private club basically and it's major flaw is that the fans aren't involved in the voting process.

I wouldn't set foot in the phuckin place. It's a joke. I'd like to know who's nominating the bands. Phuckin morons. I've been following rock & roll since 1962. The problem is the age of the voters. If they are under 45 or so, they shouldn't even be voting. Let me get this straight...Abba and Madonna are in, but Deep Purple, Rush, Alice Cooper, Grand Funk Railroad and Jethro Tull are not in??? Why do they let people under 45 even vote? Ridiculous. Hell, even many rock 'journalists' don't know shit about music from the 60's and 70's. They probably think the Beatles are overrated! At least Alice Cooper was nominated this year.

when steely dan was inducted becker solicited bids for his trophy on their website. i loved that. its worthless.
i always wonder why when they do those greatest rock and roll songs or bands that aretha franklin always ends up near the top of the list. i love aretha franklin and she would be at the top of most peoples greatest singers. but she is not even close to rock and roll.

You are correct...it was Zappa...he had a song called 'Don't Eat the Yellow Snow', from the Apostrophe album.
