Consider these 4 all of whom had recordings after 60 (and 2 over 70) that stand with anything in their careers:
(1) Bob Dylan--Together Through Life a quickly-cut, rough-edges kinda sloppy and thoroughly delightful trip through SouthWestern moods and modes. Aided materially by David Hidalgo on accordion.
(2) Willie Nelson-- American Classic taking pages from the Great American Songbook and doing it like only Willie can. Superior arranging and playing--all those other guys are mere poseurs.
(3) Merle Haggard--I Am What I Am And what he is is a top-notch American artist who's medium happens to be country--REAL country.
(4) Johnny Cash American Recordings Vol. I-VI not a mere career summing-up or an old man's gripes and groans--and no leftovers either, these may be the best work he ever did, may in fact be the best sustained work ever done by anybody. Period. And I say that as a big fan of Vince Gill's 4-CD set a couple of years ago
