Seems like a bunch of BS but due to the code of law in the USA he will probably live under the Mary Tuttle Bridge for the next five plus years. |

What, he couldn't wait 'til the toilet was free? What a knucklehead! That lady next to him should be grateful he didn't give himself a finger-wave to speed up the process. |

The thing that is serious that I learned from this story was the existence of something called the "Special Aircraft Jurisdiction of the United States". Apparently when you are in an airplane anywhere in United States airspace and you commit an act that is illegal in Washington DC you can be arrested and charged even if that act is not illegal in the state or states over which you happen to be flying over at the time of committing the act. I had never heard of that before. |

Not sure I agree with that premise. Having the law of the District of Columbia, which may or may not be reasonable, but certainly not generally know to the traveling public as the law of the air seems a bit of stretch. I doubt that more then 5% of air travelers, if that much, know that they are being governed by the laws of DC while flying. Yet we do not see chaos in the skies on a frequent basis. I would suggest that the general adherence to civility and law is what prevent chaos in the skies not the laws of DC being enforced. |

I think he qualifies for the half-mile high club. |

DC laws may not be the first choice of any of us. The Feds rarely invoke the law (domestically) for small items like this. Usually they let the state where the plane lands handle it - unless it is an international flight. So my question is why the Feds got involved. |

May I respectfully submit that after 9/11, the Fed got involved in everyfuckingthing, especially involving transportation. Also there is a special Federal Circuit Court for DC alone--all the others are multi-state. A factor?--maybe, |

This is a classic example of how not to deal with boredom on a long flight ![]() |

If you read the criminal complaint it specifically states it was violation of DC law. The "Special Aircraft Jurisdiction of the United States" applies to all aircraft flying in United States airspace no matter what nation they are flagged by. |

Gives a new term to Flying Solo! If I am not mistaken wasn't it Hands Solo and how his name was aquired for the multiple times he practiced the art in the aircraft on his way to SJO? ![]() |
