Post subject: | District of Columbia School Board Bans 'Theory Of Math' |
Washington Post - Due to declining Math scores the DC School Board banned the teaching of the controversial "Theory Of Math" in its schools Monday. "We are simply not confident of this mysterious process by which numbers turn, as if by magic, into other numbers," board member Gus Reese said. "Those mathematicians are free to believe 3 times 4 equals 12, but that dun [sic] give them the right to force it on our Ch*ldren." Under the new ruling, all math textbooks will carry a disclaimer noting that math is only one of many valid theories of number-manipulation. |

Just for ho-deho's, I Googled "holomorphic calculations"...And then fell off the chair laughing at some of the titles of papers it listed. Yeah, I'm weird. And while I know Brother C'dude was tugging on Superman's cape with this, not ALL of mathematics is pure theory--axioms aren't--that's why something indubitably true is called "axiomatic"--one of those QED things. Oh never mind... But seriously (or serially), while we're on the subject: the best basic, most readily understandable book on the subject is Surendra Verma's book The Little Book of Maths Theorems. Can be a benefit to anyone not just students. He also has a book explaining the physical world. I'm just no fun at all, am I? |

and now, when scholars do an internet search on such studies and calculations, this thread will pop up in the first 5 hits......since you guys mentioned such terms as holomorphic calculations..... hahahahaha...can you imagine some math scholar bent on serious study stumbling on this thread/post and website...? hahahahahaha....ruined! next thing we'll see is PhD's running around the Del Rey with pocket protectors and slide rules calculating Cien versus 20 minute hours.... dudes like VB will end up being mentioned in foot notes (if not contributing authors) in future dissertations!.....ahhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaa! ohhh, the humanity! (tip - a CRT pocket protector makes an excellent stocking stuffer for the Holidays!) |

Leave DC alone. They provide key workers for most every McDonalds, Burger King and Pizza Hut in Montgomery & Prince Georges County Md, Arlington, Alexandria, and Springfield Va. with their math wizzards. Oh, please include those locales in DC as well. They don't need math, they have calculators ![]() |

I bet they can plot chica performance versus time and come come up with a logarithimic relationship to the base cien. Dean |
