Post subject:  Mucho Gusto dethroned

In a stunning turn of events here on CRT long term “Posts per Day” leader Mucho Gusto has been dethroned. To understand the significance of this event one must look back on the history of CRT.

Mucho Gusto has held this honor from almost the first day he burst upon the CRT scene nearly 4 years ago. In fact MG has held the lead longer then he has used the screen name Mucho Gusto. Old timers here will remember MG use to post under a different screen name.

So who was the young turk who dethroned the old lion? None other than the old “dumpster diver” JazzboCR. Sandwiched between his seeming insatiable thirst for knowledge, as evidenced by his frequent posting of articles from the N.Y. Times and Wall Street Journal, Jazzbo’s spirited defense of that quasi governmental organization that employs him and his hometown cheering for the Philadelphia Phillies and Philadelphia Eagles (at least he spared us from rants about the Sixers and Flyers :P ) proved to be an onslaught that overwhelmed MG.

The question now is will the aging old lion make a spirited comeback and reclaim his title or is it time to say “the King is dead long live the King"?

Stayed tuned to see how this battle ends and who will emerge next to battle the winner of this MG / Jazz epic struggle.

Two answers.

1. Go to the head of the class you already know the answer.

2. It is the "Smack Talk & Fun Stuff" section.

Thank you Brother ID--I'm truly touched. However I think Brother MG would rather be dethroned than defrocked--same goes for me.

tmtomh here are their first post

Mucho:
I'm a newbie here, but no newbie to the mongering scene. I've made 8 trips to CR in the past 12 months, but I always stay in Flamingo Beach. I own a couple condo's by the beach up in Playas Del Coco, so I always stay up in the North/West part of Guanacaste. My question is, has anyone had any experiences in that part of the country (Guanacaste). The bars are smaller, and not as many ticas, but there's not a lot of gringos either, so the selection is usually not too bad. Had numerous tica's, nica's, columbiana's and dominicans on my trips, but I don't hear any stories from the members regarding this area. Unfortunately, I have NEVER been to San Jose. I always fly directly from Miami to Liberia. I'll be heading down for my next trip on August 11 thru August 15. I'm debating flying into San Jose, and maybe spending a night there just to see what everyone is talking about, before taking a Sansa flight to Tamarindo, and on to Flamingo. Since I'll only be there for one night, what would some of the members suggest I do with such little time? Should I stay at the DR or the Presidente or ?????? Whenever I talk to someone and mention CR, the 1st thing they ask me is if I've ever been to the BM Bar. So, since this is my 9th trip to CR in 13 months, I think I owe it to myself to check it out. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Ignorant newbie's question I know, but how do I find Mr. Pro's or anybody's map of MP's and suchlike?

ID,
Do you check each of our profiles daily to see which member's post average changed? Do you have a spreadsheet or just memorize them?

And yes, you are correct, that does sound like a lot of fun.

Why are you so concerned about this thread? If you do not like it or do not agree with it then skip on by.

If MG, Jazz or Admin object then I will be concerned.

Awesome topic, Irish! :D But what's even more awesome was Mr. Black's repost of both MG's and JzBo's first posts. My my, how far both of them have come since those inauspicious beginnings!

Orange, I don't get it either frankly, but since I have a lot of free time.... I found this to be quite enjoyable.

irish, if you're looking for something to do, maybe checking the highest overall post counts, then reposting the posters' first entries might be very entertaining. For instance, I'd love to see Ding Dong's first post, Circus' first entry...and Orange's as well.

Maybe I should start with El Ciego's first CRT post. :D

Post subject: Cafe Mundo - Another Review

:) This is my first posting on CRT, but I wanted to share a marvelous experience I had at Cafe Mundo.
As reported by others on this topic, Cafe Mundo is located at calle 15, avenida 9, just up the hill from NF and the Hotel Don Carlos. The restaurant is at a busy corner in an otherwise quiet residential neighborhood; climb the 23 steps to the front door and prepare to enjoy yourself.
Cafe Mundo is ostensibly an Italian restaurant, but like many restaurants in San Jose, it has a decidedly Costa Rican flair. We were seated in a nicely-lit smoking area. The tables are a bit close together for my taste and are certainly less private than some other places at which we dined. Chairs were quite comfortable.
The music at the Cafe Mundo is a blend of jazz, techno/trance/ambient and European club mixes; it is not so loud however as to be obtrusive.
Service was not spectacular but friendly and competent. Sandra, our waitress was charming and saw to our needs. An older mamacita, apparently a supervisor literally ordered us to have a glass of water following our rather large meal; rather than being irritated by her, we were entertained.
The food was quite good. One of my favorite features was the italian flag bread arrangement that accompanies each meal: Three small stacks of sliced bread, each in one color of the Italian flag are served with a bowl of garlic-flavored olive oil. The green bread is flavored with oregano and I believe, basil. The red bread is flavored/colored with sweet red chili, and the white bread is flavored subtly with pine nuts. A local friend informed us that the cafe gets the bread from a local bakery; the bread is baked fresh twice daily. In fact, it was the best bread we ate during our twelve days in San Jose.
We began with a tossed green salad, not anything out of the ordinary but quite fresh and good. We also ordered the brochetta, a baked crust with sauce and tasty, bubbling cheese. For our main course we shared the fettucini Alfredo con mariscos, which was loaded with chunks of sea bass (corvina), shrimp (camarones) and squid. The sauce was better than average, loaded nicely with Parmesan cheese and cream. Dessert was traditional flan, served with the traditional burnt caramel sauce, and cafe con leche. Oh, and we also enjoyed a glass of the house red wine during the meal; quite acceptable.
Prices were moderate for a restaurant of this quality, and we also enjoyed a 10% discount, thanks to a business card/coupon provided by our hotel. Two glasses of wine, shared salad, shared appetizer, shared entree', two desserts and two coffees came to just over U.S.$24.00 with the discount.
People watching is great here; as I said, the tables are quite close together in the smoking section. Besides admiring the cute, clean, collared dog that wanders through the place, we saw a very affectionate tico couple zesting up their meal with kisses, an older gringo with a young English-speaking woman (her second language), and a young gringo with a goatee seducing his chica with plenty of beers and smooth talk in Spanish. All in all, Cafe Mundo is a must-do for its combination of youthful, sophisticated ambience, delicious food and reasonable prices. A good bet. Try to get the discount coupon from your hotel.

who's First Post was the Following?

I wasn't sure whether this place should be posted under bars or MP's, since it is a little of both. They have some truly lovely ladies at this place and is definitely worth checking out. Personally I like going here in the late afternoon or early evening (from 5-7PM) and mixing it in afterwards with a visit to the Tin Jo restaurant which is across the street. If you are taking a cab and want to avoid the potential commission hassle you can use Tin Jo as a destination. I just walk there as it is just a few blocks straight down the hill from the DR. This bar has a very different personality from the BM. It is much more laidback (which is why a bar like the BM is better for your later evening activities- plus IDEM closes early). You'll get a lot of eye-contact but not the aggressive groping and propositioning that you get at the BM. This can be a good thing if you prefer to make your selection in an unhurried way without being pressured. The girls are almost all very lovely, but if you need help in deciding Roberto will advise and either he knows how to pick them or the girls work harder when they know he recommended them. One complaint, I have is like many MP's in SJO the rooms upstairs can get hot. I saw one post the suggested the downstairs room might be a little cooler
