TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Having sex with animals could soon be outlawed in Florida.

The Senate unanimously passed a bill (SB 448) Tuesday that would make it a third degree felony for anyone to have sex with an animal. A similar bill in the House has not been debated on the floor.

Florida is one of 16 states without a law banning bestiality.

The bill sponsored by Sen. Nan Rich, D-Weston, D-Weston, would make the offense a third-degree felony, punishable by up to five years in prison. The Florida law would not apply to veterinary practices.

According to the national Humane Society, several studies highlight a link between sexual assault of animals and sex crimes against humans.

Yeah, yeah, yeah...! But if you had bothered to read the "fine print" in that article, it also says that they are going to re-classify sheep as MAMMALS, not livestock. So all is well. Come on people... move along now.... nothing to see here !!! :o

What is lost in all of this is how funny it is that it is necessary to pass such laws.

Can't say I find it necessary. Like most laws it is not going to prevent anything. Those who have no inclination to have sex with an animal are not going to with or without a law prohibiting it. Those who have sex with an animal will continue regardless of this new law.

I suspect the law is the brainchild of some legislator who wants to take the high moral ground in his next campaign rather then having any real concern for animals.

Besides whose to say sheep do not enjoy being humped by humans or dogs do not enjoy humping humans.  :P

Seems like the grassroots movement is well underway to overturn this repressive law. Will NAMSLA be working with the ACLU as well? :D

It used to be legal in the state of washington to have sex with animals. Then 4 years ago the state passed a similar law. This was brought about when a Boeing Executive died after having sex with a horse in Enumclaw. He was the catcher and not the pitcher.

According to the following article (http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2002384648_farm16m.html)
The dead man was identified as a 45-year-old Seattle resident. According to the King County Medical Examiner's Office, he died of acute peritonitis due to perforation of the colon. The man's death is not being investigated because it did not result from a crime, Urquhart said.

supposely there is video of this on web, but this is something I don't need to see.

I understand that Gloria Steinem will be the guest speaker at the next gathering (herding?) of the sheep component of NAMSLA.
The agenda will cover getting a termination of services contract, more food, less sex, and how to 'keep the pen but dump the farmer'.

In a related vein, the human component of NAMSLA is rumored to be investigating mongering friendly countries.
