Good idea NH. Last year one of my friends went to the Palmares festival and had a few too many drinks (his novia was to drive back to Escazu but they had a fight and she took the bus ......another story). Anyways, my friend takes an unfamiliar road home and drives off into a ditch. His SUV was drivable but pretty banged up. He was shaken and too drunk to drive. A local Tico drove him home to Escazu at 11pm followed by a Tico neighbor so the driver had a ride home. I'd say that was pretty nice treatment to my friend.

First, the Trip Report threads are the ultimate CR does not suck section. Secondly, I would not eat at Soda Peru even if free. That place is a dump. Sorry, about the 2nd one. But true.  :? :?

If you want to go to the topic of lousy food in CR, well that's a long thread my friend!

In my opinion, much of the CR sucks sentiment comes from the mongers dissatisfaction with passionless quickies. For some, changing venues seems to solve the problem, at least temporarily. After all, it is much easier to just buy a ticket to some other promised land than to do any real work on ourselves to improve the quality of sessions.

Kinda like the guy who was married 10 times and decided to give up on women as a species. He might have saved a lot of pain and dollars if he ever took the time to check his own modus operandi. After all, the common denominator in all those failed unions was...him.

Don't think your in the majority on this one, the fresh corvina daily is OUTSTANDING... Have enjoyed MANY good meals there and will continue to do so.

First of all i am not in the Costa Rica sucks club(have 2 trips there in May and June)but i would encourage all board members to try different locations because i think variety is the spice of life. If you just go to one location you could get burned out(familiarity breeds contempt).I have not been to the HDR in 4 months and i need my fix.As i write this i am on my way to my favorite destination on earth(Medellin)....Happy hunting Hombres! 8)

I like eating at hole in the walls as well. I liked the food at Soda Peru, the ceviche, the corvina in garlic sauce, the picante shrimp. Makes my mouth water thinking about it.

I also had something to eat in the Mercado Central when I was out there buying coffee. These are high traffic local eateries with finger licking good food.

But, to each his own. Lucking I had a bunch of people who like eating like me, including Nhhank and many more.

IMO, some of the best grub you'll find in SJO is in some of these little "hole-in-the-wall" places in the Mercado Central ! Thanks to Boudmon for enlightening me to that place!
